I'm considering adding WARC bands to my FT101E. Would it be possible? I know difficult as I would need to locate the WARC bands boards/crystals then intergrate them into the FT101E
Any advice would be greatly appreciated including any info on who has a dead ZD or Z so I can scavange parts.

Ok thanks for the answers on lowering power on my FT101E now another question:
On the back of the radio there is a fan and there is a plug socket for the fan, on my FT101E the orginal fan is missing so in it's life a small computer processor fan has been fitted. My question is two fold
firstly would anyone have a spare original fan, or know where I can get one. Secondly the computer fan I have could I simply slot the wires into the socket? I've checked inside the radio finding the wires connecting to the socket. Ive tried testing the wires to find power and earth but I blew the plug fuse so won't be trying that again. I'm now off to check the manual to see if it can tell me which is power and which is ground, providing one will be ground of course.

Great thanks for the useful reply. One last thing is the unit usually 5kc's low ? ie 7.060 seems to be actually transmitting on 7.055 or is it simply my inexperience?

I'd still go with the Yaesu 857D because it does all that is wanted at the base levels, or it does here in the uk; as you get HF from top band to 6 exluding 4m then VHF/UHF 2/70cm's although a bit on the high price it's well worth the cost. my first radio was the FT60E handi by Yaesu at a mere £120.

Thanks Ill look into a different one. Just for info the intermediate license ie 2E is second license the first for the UK is M3, I agree the 2E0 code is the longest and most annoying but I'm working on the M0 which is our full/advanced one.

I've recently aquired a FT101E and would like to know is there a way of lowering it's transmit power from the stated 130watts on SSB to around 50 ? I have the manual and this says nothing about power.
Is it simply a case of lowering the plate, preset and load until the forward power is around 50? with of course a very low SWR or is there something I need to modify.
Thanks

You're right obviously wasn't looking correctly. There are hundreds of pages on PSK/Echo link.
Another question does anyone have an easy plan to build an interface? One thing I cannot seem to find is why do I need an interface is it to select the mode or simply so I don't blow either computer or radio unit up?
