16  eHam Forums / Clubs / RE: Internet at the club station on: March 09, 2012, 06:19:31 PM
The Midland (TX) Amateur Radio Club has a member who has a Clear modem for his business.  He only needs it a week or two a year so the rest of the time he leaves it at our clubhouse.  We provide a tax deductible receipt for his donation.

It's pretty handy!

K9YC's "A Ham's Guide to RFI, Ferrites, Baluns, and Audio Interfacing" has all kinds of good info.  You can download it at http://audiosystemsgroup.com/RFI-Ham.pdf

Since N5NA is taken  Smiley I think the next best choice would be NA5NA!

Take a look at Scorpion Antennas.  They're made near you by Ron Douglas, NI7J, in Phoenix.  I'm sure Ron will be glad to answer all your questions and even give you a tour of his shop.  They're great antennas!

Check the reviews here on eHam.

I switched from using Velcro to using 3M Dual Lock Fastener.

http://www.3m.com/product/information/Dual-Lock-Reclosable-Fastener.html

Both sides are the same and snaps together.  I've had the best luck finding it at Target.

I think your first stop should be http://www.k0bg.com/ .

If you still want a bug catcher the best parts for putting one together are made by Henry Allen, K5BUG.  They are only available from Main Trading Company at http://www.maintradingcompany.com/main/page_texas_bugcatcher.html .

I just perused a Mazda Speed version of the Miata, replete with Icom IC-7000, Scorpion 680, a second battery in the trunk, and a ALS-500. Had to be about a dozen holes drilled right into the sheet metal.

I'd like to see that!

25  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Bose QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Canceling® headphones on: February 07, 2012, 01:22:29 PM
I have some QC-15's I use mobile with my K3.  They work great.  However, I think they are best at canceling a constant level noise like road noise or airplane noise.  I just tried them with a talk show going on the TV and I can hear the talking perfectly clear.

You probably would be better off finding some headphones with a good acoustic seal around your ears rather than noise canceling.

So, after all of that my questions are, why have their been no reviews of the Scorpion antenna, is it price?

There are several SA-680 base station reviews:

27  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: LOTW - Help Needed! on: December 24, 2011, 11:59:59 AM
Completely reinstalled the TQSL program and downloaded my .tq6 certificate file from the lotw web site.

I don't think it works that way.  From the ARRL website:

Quote
Certificate or Private Key Not Found

When a certificate request is made a TQ5 file is created that you send to LoTW.  In response a TQ6 file is sent back to you.  These files contain unique keys therefore the TQ6 file must match the TQ5 which made the request.

This message occurs when a TQ6 file cannot find the matching file which made the certificate request.

Some causes for this error message are that the TQ5 file was deleted before the TQ6 file was loaded, you are attempting to load the TQ6 file into a computer that did not make the original TQ5 request, you made a new certificate request before the first request was processed.

If you receive this message click OK and continue loading the certificate file.  If you do not acheive a gold ribbon certificate then request a new certificate.

The simplest solution to most certificate issues is to request a new certificate.

The best way to avoid this type of problem is to create a backup of your certificate using tqslcert.exe.  Highlight your certificate then save.  This will create a p12 file which can be imported or moved to another computer.

Unfortunately in your situation I think you're going to have to request a new certificate.

28  eHam Forums / APRS / RE: APRSdroid on: December 21, 2011, 08:45:26 AM
I've been using APRSdroid for a couple of days.  Seems to work real well.  I used my arrl.net email address when requesting my passcode and received it instantly.  However, my two sons requested codes and the next day they were requested to send a copy of their licenses.  Hopefully their codes will arrive today.

Repeater contacts aren't allowed.

Most of your questions are probably answered in this document:
