Search for "THE RADIO CLUB OF JHS 22 NYC INC."

That must be it.

33  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Yamaha CM-500 and Kenwood TS-830S on: May 16, 2011, 09:32:12 AM
This is dynamic mic cartrage from the specs, so it shouldn't need a power source.

I think the mail order sites say it's a dynamic mic but it's actually an electret element and does require voltage to operate.  If your rig doesn't have voltage at the mic connector the mic comes with a small battery box you can place inline to provide the voltage.

I'm using a CM500 with an Elecraft K3 and have been very happy with it.  The K3 has a 1/8" mic connector on the rear panel.  Otherwise you'll need to build an adapter for your mic jack or buy one such as Heil makes.

34  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Burying Ground Radials on: May 16, 2011, 09:16:01 AM
Regarding how many radials you need, this is an interesting series of articles from QEX where the author measured the value gained of adding each radial.

Thanks for posting those links.  Those are very interesting articles.

35  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: N-Prefix Callsign -- when ? on: May 15, 2011, 07:39:01 PM
Interesting.  So, did the Extra Class operators have special early access to the N prefix?  I guess I never thought about it much but I am not even sure if N prefix is limited to Extra today.  Maybe it is.

In 1976 a rule was passed allowing an Extra Class licensee to request a specific callsign.  There were various dates one became eligible to apply.  The fee was $28 if no renewal was desired or $29 with renewal.

Beginning July 1, 1976, a person holding the Extra and holding a 1x2 call could turn it in for his choice of 1x2; also a person holding Extra and licensed 25 years could request a specific 1x2

Beginning October 1, 1976, a specific 1x2 could be issued to an Extra who held that class prior to November 22, 1967.

Beginning January 1, 1977, a person who acquired Extra prior to July 2, 1974, could request a specific 1x2 call.

Beginning April 1, 1977, a person who acquired Extra prior to July 1, 1976, could request a specific 1x2 call.

After July 1, 1977, all Extras were eligible.

Many 1x2 calls were acquired during this program.  They aren't treated as vanity calls and there is no vanity call fee upon renewal.

This information was from the June, 1976, QST.

36  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Butternut HF9V on: May 15, 2011, 02:13:31 PM
There's a Yahoo! Group for Butternut antennas at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Butternut-antennas/

I recommend digging a hole and sticking it in the ground.  Lay down as many radials as you can of whatever length you have room for.

My club uses a couple of Butternut verticals every year at Field Day and they work great.  In fact this year we plan to go all verticals, probably all Butternut.
37  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: N-Prefix Callsign -- when ? on: May 15, 2011, 01:58:57 PM
I received my call in 1977.  That was when the FCC had a program to allow Extra class operators to choose a call.  That may have been the time frame the first N calls were issued.

38  eHam Forums / Contesting / RE: QSO Parties This Weekend on: May 11, 2011, 09:34:40 AM
CQ/X de NO5W allows you to log all three QSO parties, split out the logs, and then score each QSO party individually.  I've used it the last two years for the 7QP, NEQP, INQP weekend.

CQ/X also handles four other weekends that have multiple state QSO parties running.  The next update will include another multi-QSO party contest for the Alabama and Maritimes QSO parties on June 4.

CQ/X is free and can be downloaded at http://www.no5w.com/

Try CC User.

You can set it up to alert on a prefix or callsign.  It will sound an alarm or send you an email.

It was announced in the March 30 issue of The ARRL Contest Update that the Zeroland QSO Party had been canceled.  No reasons were given.

44  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: Ten Tec ~ "The SSB Company"? on: December 21, 2010, 05:40:04 PM
From the Ten-Tec reflector May 21, 2010:

"Regarding "The SSB Company". TenTec has always lead the market with
regards to CW functionality and its legendary QSK. CW and its
featuring will never be jeopardized.  The wording "The SSB Company"
helps new technicians see that we are serious about phone as well.

Thank you,
