1  eHam Forums / Misc / KC0REY - deal gone bad on: October 21, 2004, 12:30:39 PM
It's always sad to have to report another bad deal with a fellow ham.

This time it is with KC0REY .

He bid on an antenna of mine on ebay and won it.  My instructions were for the winner to pay via paypal within 2 days or by money order within 10 days
and to acknowledge my invoice to them within 2 days via email.

After the third day I had to re-invoice him and I received this email from him on Oct 7 "Yeah Tom, I guess I have been a bonehead concerning this. My apologies to you. I'll get this taken care of tomorrow after I get off work. 73, Steve"

No problem ... Again after not receiving his check after 8 days, I emailed him on Oct 15th and again reminded him of the payment due. The same day I received an email from him stating "I sent it Tom, I’ll dig out the receipt tomorrow and check the date on it because I can’t remember. Steve"

That struck me as kind of funny that he could not "remember" when he mailed the check. Red flags started waving.

On Oct 18th, he still had not provided me with a supposed receipt date.  I emailed him again and explained that when he bid on something on ebay that it was a contract of sorts and that ebay charges me a percentage of the winning dollar amount. He didn't
respond.

At the time he placed and won the bid, he had only 1 other feedback - a positive one.

By Oct 15, he had received his second feedback - this time it was a negative one for being a non-paying bidder. (Had I seen this before he won the bid, I would have cancelled his bid immediately).

On Oct 19th, I emailed him again to inform him that if I didn't receive his check by the 21st of October (which it hadn't), that I would be selling the item to the second highest bidder and that if I received his check after that date, that I would
return it. A check from Illinois to Maryland should only take 3-4 days and it was supposed to be mailed before the 15th. No response again (Yet I see him posting on QRZ).

It would have been better accepted if he had told me that he didn't want the antenna right off the git-go instead of lying and then leading me on.

What kind of person is this ?  Well I know that he has had other dealings on QRZ and they have seemed to go well, but as for me - he is banned from bidding on my items on ebay in the future and I would suggest that you have second thoughts when dealing
with him. Maybe he thinks that it is fun and OK to do this on ebay because it will not be reported on QRZ, QTH and/or Eham ... Guess again.

I'm not out that much money but what really bothers me is that one ham would treat another ham this way.
2  eHam Forums / Elmers / TS-440-Sat autotuner on: November 27, 2003, 08:47:04 AM
I use the TS-440 auto tuner to tune a 10-40m dipole and I have used it to tune a 102' G5RV.  Works great.  It takes about 5 seconds to tune on the 10-40 dipole. On the G5RV sometimes you would tune it within 1.3-1 SWR, then as you would transmit, it would change and then you would have to retune it.  The nice thing is that the auto tuner tunes at low power.  On 40 and 80m of course the tuning is very tight and when you move a few Kc you would need to retune it.

After numerous requests from fellow HAMs, a website has been developed where we can all go and check to see if another HAM that we are purchasing radio equipment and parts from is on the UP and UP.

http://www.hamstershack.com

Tired of going from site to site, reading and sifting through various messages to see if the HAM you are ready to buy from is honest? Ready to take a chance and just buy it? Then, this is the site to go to. All reviews are categorized under each persons individual callsign.

Reviews are submitted by other HAMS that has had previous dealings with that person. All lumped into one easy to read review page.

Come visit us and submit your review. Help your fellow HAMS. Save them some time and hopefully - money. We need your help to make this a valuable tool.

After you visit us - please submit your HAM LINK review on EHAM.NET look for the HAMster Shack under the HAM LINKS.

Patience is a key.  Don't get frustrated and give up.

It is learning another language.  It took me months to learn conversational japanese and almost 1.5 years to learn russian.  Some people learn fast - some learn slow.  Make it a fun thing to do.  Don't make it seem like work, you'll hate it. Have fun with it.
7  eHam Forums / Misc / Keeping a Log Book on: November 30, 2002, 03:25:07 PM
Well for one thing ... I kept a paper log for years, then I switched over to the computer.  For me, I enjoy looking back thru my paper logs.  There is something lacking in the computer logs ... not sure what it is, and even if there is a real difference, but there is something nostalgic about paper logs.

I don't log every contact, for instance, friends that I chat with frequently thru the month.  I log all new contacts though.

I see no difference in throwing rocks, be it HAM Radio, speeding, stealing pencils from work or cheating on your income tax returns.

People (HAMs) are quick to point out the illegal operators (dead or alive) but thinks it's OK to break laws in other ways.

Now, I'm not saying I am free from guilt, I'm just saying, let's respect people, especially the SKs.

Yes, he may have been wrong before becoming a HAM, but he became legal after becoming a HAM, hence, what he did in the past is only human and forgiven. (or should be).

It's either the way we write our posts or the way others perceive them that - both can be misunderstood.

10  eHam Forums / Elmers / Need help with 10 meter TVI problem!! on: November 23, 2002, 08:55:41 AM
Come on Steve ... Just because he's running a easily converted to 11m rig, with a CB antenna, with a possible over-driven power mic (probably the cause of his TVI), and does not give a callsign - doesn't mean that he is a CB pirate.

Does it ?

I have had the same problems with the dots ... I have been doing one thing at a time ... I just cleaned all the glue stuff out of the PLL sections, I still get the dots - but after it warms up now, flashes between dots and numbers, then the receive dies out and numbers are solid ... Try this website for some info on the 440 ... http://www.mods.dk/

Hope this helps ... let me know if you find anything that would help please ... I want to get mine fixed too ...

12  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Need a TS520SE Guru on: August 31, 2002, 01:59:01 AM
It's 2am and I have been working on the 520SE for a few hours now.  Two resistors blew under the final section and I popped the 6amp fuse.  How - dunno. Well, I suspect that after I added a MC50 with a Heil cartridge that I overdid something.   Anyway I replaced the resistors, replaced my old worn and tired 6146B's with 6146W's and replaced the 12BY7A driver tube.  Went thru the neutralizing thing and now I can't seem to get a output greater than 40 watts on all bands.  (Before the resistors fried, I could tune up to about 80 on 10m and about 100 on the other bands).

Can anyone give me some areas to look at.

Signed ...

Agitated, dumbfounded and Tired ...
