1  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / FT-530 Manual on: August 12, 2009, 01:24:17 PM
I have two FT-530 radios.  One was provided DOA: "It was ruined when plugged into the EMS30-Y charger while powered on-- beware".

The other, after some time, I've managed to kill in apparently the same manner.

Fixing the FT-530 looks possible, except that the schematics available are hard to read, and Yaesu doesn't seem to have the service manual in stock.

If anyone has this manual, or a lead to one, I'd be grateful.

(Once the unit is fixed, I shall then fix the charger.  Perhaps with a hammer.)

Silly me.  I never noticed the buttons on the microphone!  Thanks for your help.

3  eHam Forums / Misc / Yaesu FT2500M programming help on: August 20, 2003, 10:27:35 PM
I have several rigs I purchased sight-unseen a few years ago.  One of them, an FT2500M, is a rig I am finally getting to know a little about.  Unfortunately all the gear came without documentation, so with the FT2500M it's been a hunt and peck proposition.

I've been able to determine how to program the rig, mostly, but there are a few unfortunate holes in my understanding.

There seems to be no internet-ready documentation for this rig, or any of the others i've search for.

Any FT2500M owners out there familiar with this unit - could you help me complete the following quick reference to this rig?  It seems wasteful to purchase a manual for just a few simple functions.  I have indicated questions below.

Once this is complete I will re-post it here and on my own web site so that others can reference it.

FT2500M Programming

F/W button - Press once, F Key
Press and hold, channel number flashes.
Rotate dial to select channel.  Press again
                   and memory writes.

No F = Just press the indicated button
F = Press F/W, then the indicated button
Hold F = Press and hold F/W until channel number flashes, then press the indicated button

         RPT Button
No F       Sets offset + - or none
F        Sets amount of offset
Hold F      Sets Auto Power off (minutes?)

                  TONE Button
No F      Cycles through encode, decode, off
F        Sets CTCSS tone frequency
Hold F      NO FUNCTION?

        PAGE/CODE Button
No F      NO FUNCTION?
F        0-7 in channel indicator.  Unknown what it
                   does.
Hold F      - 1 3 5 8 BP  Unknown what it does.

        CALL/BELL Button
No F      Puts C in channel window
F        Puts bell symbol next to freq and squelches
unit off.  Some type of subaudible paging?
Hold F      NO FUNCTION?

        LOW/LOCK
No F      Sets power level
F         Locks dial
Hold F      NO FUNCTION?

       A-N/STEP
No F          Changes freq display to Alpha
F       Changes freq step 5 - 50 khz
Hold F          NO FUNCTION

        D/MR
No F      Toggles from direct freq control to memory
                   control
F        NO FUNCTION?
Hold F      Sets display backlight level

        MHZ/PRI
No F      Toggles for MHZ selection
F        NO FUNCTION?
Hold F      TOT - Time out timer i think in minutes?
                   What does this do?

        REV/SKIP
No F      Toggles between input and output frequency
                  for rx
F        Sets channel to be skipped
Hold F      BAD BAD BAD  Don't know how to bring a
                   skipped channel back!

To set Alpha display for a channel, first set it to alpha mode by pressing A/N once.  Then F and Hold, and press A/N.  First position char will flash.  Rotate main dial to get char then press  MHZ/PRI to move to next position.  Press A/N to store.

Does this radio scan?  Seems like it should with the Skip function for a channel.
