Several pass's through Toroidial Cores on your CATV coax line with the proper "mix" will often cure this type tvi

Try using Mix 44 type toroidial cores on all the cables going to your sat receiver and tv's. Get the cores large enough to make a few pass's thru these cores for each of the cables, especially the coax's. Experimentation is the key.

Worked like magic for me.

I use an ft817 and a 4 element lightweight quad I bought off ebay.

I have had a near two year ordeal with my power company and things are finally pretty good here. My power company is now responsive to the rfi.

Forget about the transformers. Very rarely do they cause the problems. Usually simple loose connections, dead end bells, and slack span insulators. "All" of my 9+ sources were of this nature. My neighborhood is about 40 years old and thus the lines are too.

Good info at ARRL (do google searchs) and do a search for K3RFI, a well known expert in the field of power line rfi.

Keep good records. I have a notebook that is crammed full of all my info.

Lastly go to my website www.qsl.net/af4o for my info.

I use to sell some of these without the 800mhz when I was in business. Cant remember the model #. Programmed even more because Wally World sold alot of them.

These type scanners will scan/search a whole wide range of frequencies but tend to pick up more birdies from computers and just about everything. In my book it makes the band scan almost useless at home. Such as hitting the fire button and scanning every fire frequency in existence but you probably only want to listen to a couple. Another thing, by the time you get back to your intended frequency the conversation is usually over. About the only good this is for mobiles wanting to find unknown frequencies.

There is a shining light though. The private button/function will store 20 programmed channels. I had a cheat sheet I made to program this but havent seen it in about 3 years. I remember you have to select your channel number (such as start out with private channel 1),get on the band of your target frequency, go up or down til you reach your target frequency, then maybe hit program and private. If I find that cheat sheet I will email it to you.

Hope this helps more than it confuses. Oh, the manual was of little use to me for programming the private channels. Developed that cheat sheet on my own after much time playing with the unit.

21  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / I also need help with Bearcat 210 XL! on: September 05, 2002, 06:46:15 PM
I agree with the post to the other bc210xl question.

Typically the problem is bad electrolytic capacitors on the main board.
I cant recall which ones give the problem.

If memory serves me correctly I believe the display one is near the center of the board.

Doubt very seriously if the display is bad.

I use to fix quite a few of these when I was in the electronic repair business.

Might be worth the time to just replace these one by one until you find the troublesome ones, if you have a good source of electrolytics (defunct tv chassis are a gud cheap source). Watch the values and polarity !

These are a good old workhorse scanner, got one on my desk at work.
