Low and behold, some of the greatest wisdom comes from the mouths of CB babes! Yesterday, I went to visit an aspiring new ham who asked me to help get him on the air in his HOA ruled community. While driving around his community (a vast expanse comprising of a large number of homes), I noticed an extremely strong signal coming from a local CB op. After making contact with the "good buddy", I found that he was in the same community as my friend, and I asked him how he got around the HOA. "Antenna plants" was his reply! He wouldn't discuss the details over the radio, so we all had a nice friendly ham to CBer chat in person. This ingenius CBer had erected an attractive outside wooden lattice trellis behind his home in the garden, covered with a variety of real and artificial plants and ivy! He was able to make an antenna using green wire "vine" with a variety of artificial leaves and small flowers glued to it, that was almost impossible to spot without a very careful up close inspection. The reaction of his CC&R neighbors? They complimented him on his beautiful garden, and how it made his home look so appealing!! I think "antenna vines" may be a new way to go for hams living on all those evil HOA lands.
