What do you need a club for? Just having a nice group of ham friends is all you need. I no longer associate with clubs due to the politics and other useless BS that goes on. Plus, the club will splinter into small groups of hams with different interests. But if you must form a club, I would keep it small and focused, such as your group's VHF interest.

eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Can anyone spell anymore??

You see it every day on eHam posts with incorrectly spelled words, incorrect usage and wrong choice of words. You lose power you do not "loose" power. Your amp may arc but I doubt that it "archs" (my cat's back arches). To, too, and two, chose one and most of the time it is the wrong one. Same thing with there, they're, and thier.
How about, "my dog past away". It's passed away. I also like "noone". Noone, as in 12 O'clock? It's "no one" as in nobody. I read posts in news forums such as Newsvine, and the grammar in there is horrible.

eHam Forums / DXing / RE: LoTW Certificate, why so complicated?

How hard is it to get a postcard in the mail? How difficult is it to install the TQSL program and certificate? It is no more difficult than setting up any logging program and installing your license DLL, or whatever. I'm glad the ARRL uses security; eQSL allows bogus QSOs by the score. I'm getting over 10% bogus QSOs showing up in my eQSL log. Yes, I weed them out, but this is time consuming and with LoTW I don't need to do that as it can't happen. I don't care for eQSL awards anyway, I just upload my log for the benefit of others who do. After you have LoTW set up, most logging programs make is a total breeze to upload and confirm QSOs. I use DXKeeper, and all it takes is a few mouse clicks to upload and 1 click to download, what is so difficult about that? As who is cheating who, someone getting credit for a QSO they never made is cheating everyone, not only themselves. No different than someone cheating on a ham exam and getting a license someone else had to work for.

Best advice so far is to give all the demos a try and see which one fits your preferences the best. I personally don't need a complicated program that has mulitple drop-downs, sliding windows, as witih HRD.. I've tried them all and settled down with DXLabs Suite. You can use one or all of the individual functions of DXLabs and DXLabs will interoperate with other programs as well. One thing for sure, you will never beat the support you have with DXLabs.

I have trouble with Firefox. It will run OK for few weeks, then stop booting up for some unknown reason. I tried a few other browsers and settled on Ace Explorer. It is faster and no problems at all.

"State Farm and Allstate had to be sued to get them to pay for thousands of homes destroyed by hurricanes in Florida. Insurance companies are not your friend, so don't treat them like one. Insurance is one of the poorest investments that you can make in life."
I totally agree and NC Farm Bureau is not any better. I had to complain to the NC Insurance Commission to get any action out of their 20-something smart-azz punk adjusters. Hams are much better off to buy a separate insurance policy such as what the ARRL offers. Your home owners insurance may cover your loss, but then cancel your policy if you make a few small claims. They don't like to be bothered with small issues such as a valid claim. BTW, I informed NCFB of my radio gear beforehand, and even paid extra to make sure it was covered.

DXKeeper, which is part of the DXLabs suite, will do everything you want. I honestly have used or tried almost every program available, and some are nice, some more basic. I always came back to DXKeeper. Using both eQSL and LoTW are a snap. The great thing about DXLabs is that you can use any or all of the programs, and they all interoperate with each other. Icing on the cake is that it is all FREE, with the best support in ham radio.

eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: Any Way to Copy Paper Log to Digital??

I backup my log file to a USB "Zip Stick" regularly. The log program I use can do it automatically too. On this stick I also have the install file for this program so if it goes belly up and can insert stick in another machine and be back up fully in but a few minutes if need be.
Don't forget to include your registration file or dll. on that stick!

I'm afraid typing is your only solution. I went through that years ago, and I set a goal of 5 paper log pages each night. Eventually, you'll complete the job. I also was using a RAC CD as I typed, and I was surprised at how many hams showed up as SK's. I now back up my logs on USB memory sticks, along with the registration file for my logging program.
