1  eHam Forums / Elmers / Antenna Help Needed on: January 13, 2012, 01:44:26 PM
I have a friend in Black Hawk South Dakota who has had a leg amputated and needs someone to get a wire up for him.  His name is Gene Snyder, callsign  W7RMC.  I think his phone number is  605-718-0880.  I sure would like to find a ham or two out there who might be able to get him back on the air.   Thanks,   Richard, his friend in Maryland   K3CDQ   k3cdq@comcast.net

I recently inherited this rig.  I have a Bencher paddle set up and working perfectly on a TS-570D.   However, when I plug it into the 530 I get a solid carrier when I key one paddle, nothing on the other paddle.  Is the jack wiring different on these two rigs?  I did not get a manual with the 530.
Thanks,
Richard   k3cdq@comcast.net
3  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Logging Software on: October 13, 2011, 07:02:39 AM
I have an old computer with lots of 2002, 3 and 4 software on it.  I have thirty years of ham contacts logged in a data base that I worked up using Microsoft Works 2004.    I now have a new computer with all 2010 and 2011 softwar on it and running XP.   I have tried to export/import my Works databse to Excel and other software with no luck.   Can anyone suggest a ham logging program that will allow me to merge my Works data base into it on the new computer?   I posted this on October 13.  Today it is 10/26 and I still have no solution.  Sure wish someone could help me.  Performance tells me this computer is about to crash and would love to get my DB on the new computer.

My works data base is set up as follows:

DATE/TIME/MODE/FREQUENCY/CALL/RSTS/RSTR/NAME/CITY/COUNTY/STATE/NET/QSLS/QSLR

Many thanks for your help.  The old computer is having major problems and I am afraid I will lose thrity years of contacts.  I did download them to an external drive but have been unable to merge them into anything on the new computer.

Thanks again.

Why would you ask how many cars I own?  What does that have to do with fixing the problem, and what business is it of yours?

If you need to know, I own two.  My '96 and my wife's 2006.  Is it unusual for two married people to own two cars?

Where are you coming from?   Strange!!

Many thanks to all who have responded.  The majority or responses centered around getting to the speaker wires and shielding, grounding, chokes, coils or using ferrite beads, etc. etc.

I thank everyone for their help and have just decided NOT to have a radio in the 2006 vehicle.  I have no desire to tear into the speaker system or do anything else to alter my wife's car.

Sure would love to have had a rig in her car but will just have to be satisfied that the rig in my 1996 Explorer works fine and has for over 200,000 miles.

First of all, I pass your location frequently.  My sister in law lives in Shady Side.  Would be nice to meet you.  I am in Calvert County near Northern High.

The noise is in the two rear stereo speakers.  Do not have any rf in the two front speakers.

Just installed my TS570D in my wife's 2006 Explorer.  Everything is fine except I cannot get RF out of the rear stereo speakers.  SWR is okay, rig is grounded and coiled excess coax into a choke thinking that might help. Also got rid of a lot of QRN by grounding tail pipe, muffler, etc. and etc.

I have the EXACT same hook up in my '96 Explorer and my rig has worked fine for 205,000 miles.  Absolutely zero noise in the speakers.  Speaker noise in her car on a scale of 1 to 10 is an 11.  She would not tolerate it and neither would I.

Any suggestions?

AND Thanks in advance.

11  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Mobile Ignition Noise on: July 15, 2008, 07:49:56 AM
In spite of KA4YKC's sarcasm, I am still open for suggestions regarding this ignition noise.  As I did on the 1996, I grounded the tail pipe in three locations.  Also grounded doors, hood and rig to chasis.  Still an S9 ignition noise when engine is runnig.

Thanks
Dick

Years ago I had S9+ ignition noise (mostly fuel pump) in my 1996 Ford Explorer but with determination and a lot of crawling under the vehicle and hood, installing grounds, I got it down to S1 and S2 and have had ten or twelve good years of DX around the world with my center load Hustler and TS-140S.

The wife and I are getting ready to take a trip and today I spent hours installing my TS-570D in her 2006 Explorer but gave up after hours of trying to get S9+ ignition noise out of the rig.

I have what I thought was a good ground to the side of the engine and both power cables +/- are going to the battery.  The antenna mount is also grounded to the frame in the rear.  SWR is flat.  I even tried installing one, two and then three SOCHOKEX10 Noise Suppressor ferrites on the coax.  Even went so far as to try them on the power cord.

I hope I can find a Explorer driver out there somewhere who can give me some suggetions.

Thanks,
Dick
