Not sure exactly which HF bands you are referring to without more details. Anyways what I'm driving at here is that the lower HF bands especially (40 meters / 75 meters / 160 meters)are going to be pretty noisy anyway, especially in the summer months. They are more susceptible to natural atmospheric noises such as lightning storms that could be hundreds of miles away. It is not unusual to have S9 + noise readings on those bands especially this time of year. It is possible you may have some kind of local interference also but more detail is needed to know for sure. Which bands you are having noise problems? Is the noise or interference there all the time or intermittent? Just wanted to throw my in 0.02 cents worth. Hope this helps. Good Luck, 73.

If you can get by with an antenna 16 1/2 inches tall the MFJ-1402 works really well for its small size. They have worked well for me..

Thanks for the help. It is not tilted much at all I would say maybe only a couple or three degrees at the most. If it were any less I doubt it would even be noticeable. I wondered about the satellites to. I often listen to the ISS whenever they are on voice..
Thanks, Jason

I have two 14 element VHF Hy-Gain beams in a stacked configuration about 80ft high. Both beams are vertically configured since they are used for 2 meter fm and Both antennas are in perfect alignment with each other but they are not exactly level as they seem to be slightly pointed upward. I have noticed this when looking at the antennas from the side. My concern is how critical would this misalignment be and whether or not it could have a big or noticeable effect on the performance of the antenna especially when working distant stations and repeaters since they are slightly pointed up like this? Thanks, Jason

Well I would not put up with living conditions like that. The Lady would just have to like it or lump it if I wanted a new radio. No way sombody would be telling me how to spend the money I work for and what I can and cant do in my own home. I hear of situations like this all the time and just cant believe most Men let their Women push them around like this. Fortunatly im single and plan to keep that status. It's the best thing in life. Don't ruin it.. Just my way of looking at life and Ham Radio.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Radio shack HTX-212 MODS ?

Mods for this radio are pretty much non existent.. I have never found any mods after years searching. I think the 212 was pretty much designed to be mod proof. Your best bet is to find some brand other than Radio Shack that can be moded like Kenwood, Yaesu, Icom, Alinco etc...Hope this helps.. 73, Jason

I guess this is why I have never loaned equipment. Their are only about one or two good hams that I trust loaning my gear to.. Other than those I learned from experience most of the time when you get it back its either filthy, scratched, or damaged and usually all of the above.. I hate to be this way but I pay way to much for my equipment to let someone else tear it up. Hope you get yours back.. 73's Jason

eHam Forums / Elmers / TS-850SAT Tuner Problem

I have a Kenwood TS-850SAT. It has developed a searous problem with the auto tuner which couses terrible rf feedback on the transmit audio.. This problem is solved by bypassing the tuner which I have done and now using an external tuner. Also the relay (or one relay) within the tuner seems to switch at random while the radio is just sitting idle.. Does anybody have any ideas on what might be the couse of this problem? I have examined the tuner for bad solder joints and everything seems fine.. I had rather fix the problem if possible rather than buy a new tuner which is a very expensive replacement..
Thanks, Jason
