Wouxun the Chinese company, does build a 2 meter / 220 HT. Good unit I have one. $105.00 shipped not a bad price. Jetstream builds a 220 mobile, I guess my point is that the Chinese companies are the best bet to build a 2m / 220 mobile. Or find a used rig. I have a old Icom mobile that does 2m / 220 MHz. Here in Ca. we have the Condor system of linked 220 machines. It works well and is reasonably active as repeaters go. cheers.

You know, its really what you make of it. At least in 6 land. In over 12 years on HF I've only heard really bad language a handful of times. All bands and areas have freqs where douche bags hang out, they attract each other. Just spin the dial, for me I avoid 7.255 and 3.838. Problem solved. I have QSO's with lots of nice, interesting people, not the few turds that frequent the bands. Cheers.

Thanks for the response. I do intend on adding a counterpoise, but am just soliciting opinions, especially from users of this tuner. It's going to be used qrp with a MFJ-9440. At 5 watts I don't expect too much RF issues but still think a counterpoise is in order. Cheers.

Any user opinions and any thoughts on using this tuner with a random wire without a counterpoise. The manual sort of implies this. I've been using single wires for years and always have a counterpoise attached to the tuner ground. This is an L-network tuner. Some reviews say works without any RF ground. Any comments? Thanks.

eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Advice about no-frills dual band HT?

I have 2 Wouxun dual bands, for a couple of years now, sold off all my Yaesu and icom ht's. The wouxuns are very capable transceivers. As mentioned, about $100.00 with li-on battery and a drop in charger. 18 month warranty with north American support. Hard to beat and I don't worry too much about it because its only a $100.00 ht. cheers.

I had an Alinco dj-296 from new, it was ok but did have to be repaired under warranty. Since then I purchased a Wouxun 2 meter 440 ht and the 220 version. Both are good ht's and at $109 delivered what's not to love. The li-on battery and drop in charger, programming cable with software all included. Not to mention an 18 month warranty with north American support. Works for me. Cheers. Scott.

Check menu's 15,16,17,18. For most repeater work, only #16 should be set to PL tone. #15, 17,and 18 should be set to off (no tone). All else fail. Do a total reset off the radio and start over. Cheers.

On my dx-70th there is a button on the front panel, used in conjunction with the function button. This switches the power from 10 to 100 watts. Are you doing this? There is also a micro slide switch in the radio, on the board that limits high power to 50 watts max on high and 5 watts on low. If you are doing this then I suspect there might be a problem with one of your buttons. Hope this helps. Cheers, Scott.

I'm no MFJ fan. They sell some things that don't live up to the claims that are made, but, I have owned the 949E for 11 years and it tunes everything I throw at it including random wires which can be problematic for some tuners. Coax fed balanced antennas are a snap. Cheers Scott

Try it on simplex. Make sure the offset is off, no tones etc and see if you can be heard or listen to your own audio. My guess is operator error. That's usually my problem, not the transceiver, although possible. I have the same radio and they can be a bit difficult to program. Cheers, Scott.
