Thanks for the replies.  I noticed how you can peak on receive too.  My main concern was about running lower power after tune up.

I have a Swan 500C.  I don't want to do the voltage modification to the 117xc power supply.  Why can't I just use the carrier balance on cw and the mic gain on ssb to limit my output to extend the life of my finals?

I too did it myself, bought the caps for justradios.com
Spent about 25 bucks I think and the power supply works great.  Installed new diodes too.
While on the subject, would it be a good or bad idea to leave the sheetmetal case of the actual power supply so it could run cooler?  It already inside a vented enclosure(speaker cabinet).
