This is slightly off the ham radio topic, but I could use some advice from fellow hams on how to respond to friends who ask for HiFi advice.
One question is about "Monster" type speaker cable - you know the 4 inch diameter stuff that costs an arm and a leg. Today, someone referred me to this link and I got a huge chuckle out of the doublespeak:http://www.cardas.com/guide/goldenreference-speaker.html
Is there any engineering validity to paying $1000 for speaker cables like this? Can these really make the sound from a 200 watt stereo sound any sweeter than another suitable conductor like lamp cord?
The other popular Hi-Fi device these days is the $3,000 AC line conditioner. They swear this improves the sound (and picture for TV) immeasurably. Is this a device to recommend to anyone? Try these links: http://www.psaudio.com/products/p1200_overview.asphttp://www.furmansound.com/IT-REF.html
Your advice on how to discuss the pros and cons of these things would help me. Thanks.
