The best thing to do is lop off that SO 239 and run the ladder line to your tuner. While you are at it add 15 feet of wire to both ends. Viola' you will have a 135' doublet!

I don't think his tuner will handle window line, LDG tuners are auto tuners made for coax
5  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Yet another grounding question - cold water pipe? on: March 17, 2010, 07:36:10 PM
There are three reasons for grounding, so ask yourself "why are you grounding?"
And, is your waterpipe grounded?
But I would just plan to increase your radial system.

7  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Can I use a D&A Maverick amplifier on HF b on: March 10, 2010, 05:46:57 PM
Why do you say the amp is not FCC Certified? The FCC had to approve the amp before it could be offered for sale back in the 1970’s, so they had to meet specific standards

Sold illegally then too!

Yeah, you'd think he'd be crowing like rooster if he passed. OTOH, he's probably still driving back from
whatever other state he had to travel to to take the exam.  You can check him out while you wait.
Two short videos of "The Captain" on CB
and one audio of him on a local repeater.
The last link you have to download the audio.

Both sides in the repeater conversation were wrong, just ignore the lid.
9  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Burying coax --- types of coax on: March 04, 2010, 06:19:22 PM

1) The instructions that came with the antenna state that for lightning protection, best to bury at least 20 ft of coax in the ground. So my question is this: is that practical? Can coax be buried directly in the ground? If so, is there a certain type of coax, analogous to underground electrical line?

This is the first time I've heard of that, anyone else?

11  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Chimney mounts on: February 26, 2010, 06:20:11 PM
Get ready to remove the chimney wreckage from your yard and repair your roof.  This is probably the worst way to mount even a small antenna.  If you lease or rent your home, prepare for a lawsuit.
Just a warning.

12  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Very offensive broadcast on 14275 on: February 23, 2010, 09:32:43 PM
There is something funky with the forum, it shows I started a thread on this topic, when all I did was reply to the original. I was posting on the "seattle eham forum but that seems to be down
13  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: Can DC ground cause RF in the Car? on: February 23, 2010, 04:53:38 PM
I agree with Allan on this, but the rack is BOLTED to the roof, so it is not insulated from the body. That being said, it is a bad connection.
