A ham moved into a very restricted area that didn't allow antennas in the yard. He place them on a bus however " on a tower " into the air and as long as they weren't in the yard nothing could be done. Bet the bus looked amazing with the small tower and antennas for HF, VHF, UHF on it..hi

Appreciate those replies. Guess will continue running both + - wires directly to battery. Looks like # 8 is what I will be using for both and fusing both at battery. Looks like Kenwood D 710A for VHF / UHF and Kenwood TS-480 for HF, with wires running on drivers side and NMO mount on top of cab for VHF / UHF and Screwdriver type antenna on top, back bumper "drivers side". Guess 8X coax for HF antenna.
Appreciate it.
Thank you
Kenny

eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Anyone running Packet on VHF, Pactor on HF Mobile

Will be installing in my 2010 GMC Sierra SLE Crew Z71 4x4 a complete voice and digital station that should use Kenwood D 710A VHF / UHF APRS with GPS puck and Kantronics TNC for Packet. HF Station will be Kenwood TS-480HX or SAT, Kantronics 98 or SCS Pro II with P3 modem " Thinking about selling it though " for hf digital modes including Packet and Pactor 1- P3 depending on which hf digital box I use and will be using Laptop or net book. Would remote all and only have the laptop, HF, and dual band heads with all other tnc's , radios under back seat.
Does anyone on here have same setup for voice and digital ??

eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Run Negative to battery or Ground the negative at the radio in 2010 GMC ?

I have always ran both negative and positive wires straight to the battery. However when installing audio amplifiers would always run a short negative to chassis ground. Never a ground loop problem that way. However just bought a new 2010 GMC Sierra SLE 4x4 Crew truck and was told it either had 23 or 26 seperate computers in it ..yuck. Decided to run + - wires from aux battery under the truck and place remote radio under the back seat and the remote head /s in the front keeping the coax at back of the cab. So just wondering if to run negative wire all the way or simply drill a hole and ground it at the radio ?
I will be running 8 gauge wire and might put in a small amp or run an Kenwood TS-480 HX 200 watt rig, Kenwood D710A vhf/uhf, Digital tnc, laptop or netbook will be working digital and voice .
Would like to hear also from anyone who has installed a radio system in 2010 Chevy / GMC Sierra Crew.
Thank you 73 Kenny

What is best mic to use with Icom 756 Pro III ? I will be using the Heil foot switch FS-2 and had thought about the Heil HM-10. I also can hook up an 8 band EQ W2IHY if needed. I have not ruled out a desk mic, but will be keying by the foot switch. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thought about getting into digital "packet" modes on the Satellite, wondering if there are any 2m/70cm to pass packet traffic ? All current "updated" links would be great.

I did look at the 450at, but after talking to several that used those they said thay full duty cycle was around 50 watts.. Bought the 480HX with 200 watts and loved it. Buy the radio and then see, if you need the filters. Mine had both SSB / CW filters and never used them.. However the 480 will allow you to use combinations of BOTH SSB / CW filters. So you could use CW filter combo with SSB filter while on SSB. Read all the manuals, and the TECH manual that are free downloads for the 480. Hope this helps

eHam Forums / Elmers / TS-480HX purchase advice

I had both the cw and ssb filters, voice module, and I loved it. The 480 allows both filters to be used instead of ssb filter for ssb only and cw filter for cw only.
Both HRD and Free Kenwood software never had a problem controlling it. The power supply I used was MFJ 4245 and worked great!! I used LDG Pro 200 Auto tuner and never had a problem. It will do 200 watts pep all day long too. I would buy the radio and use it before buying the filters, you might not need them..hi
Hope this helps.
