Sorry it wasn't Amazon, it was eBay where I purchased it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170744713151

Qty Item Options Price
1 4 RS-232 Serial Port COM to PCI-E Card Adapter MOSCHIP
Item # 170697247882   $22.98 USD

They really did offer free shipping as well as the $22.98 is all that I paid.

By the way, it works just great and now I don't worry about disconnects or anything anymore! Smiley

In the past I have had great experiences with GigaParts. I have even visited the store there in Huntsville a couple of times when I was on a business trip there.

That was in the past. Right now I'm waiting for an order that I placed near Christmas time! It really isn't their fault because its a distribution problem from Yaesu! I ordered an FT-817ND and when I ordered it it was in stock but while on the phone with the sales rep, it was sold to another customer. I guess it was the last one they had. They told me they expect another shipment in less than a week. Guess what, Wrong!

Again not a problem with GigaParts as they have communicated to me the problems, I just want my radio!  Cry

The best thing I ever did was to buy a 4 port serial board for my computer! I had it up to here! You can see my hand over my eyes! I always had trouble with the Prolific so bought the FTDIs and it worked until it got trashed somehow. I bought the 4 port serial board from Amazon (really imported from China) for $22 and it works great. No more problems  Smiley

I just read on the HRD website that they will have a version of 5.1 (the new one) at their booth at the Orlando Hamcation this weekend. I'll be looking forward to see it and talk to them. I'll let you all know after this coming weekend (Feb 10 thru 12th).

6  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Ameritron ALS-500 / MFJ Quality Lacks on: February 02, 2012, 12:43:15 PM
There really is a reason that MFJ received the moniker of "Mighty Fine Junk". Yes, I think we all have something from MFJ and I would say the majority of items work properly. I have never had a bad item from MFJ but have noticed the reduced quality and therefore the items having a reduced life cycle. I am familiar with both DOD and Civilian Specifications and neither one allows for solder splashes that will short circuits. Testing has proven to be a valuable function and it should never be bypassed! In the end you will pay if you don't test before you ship. I can relate to bad products as I had a Dentron MLA-2500 that never worked properly! Just too many gremlins due to the lack of quality, I think I ended up trashing that amplifier so many years ago!

Also, you don't get a great reputation like Bill Grassa - N4ATS has by contending with the lack of quality that MFJ seems to exhibit overall and not being able to back it up!

He sees repairs but he also sees new units for testing (and am sure repairing the new unit) that AES in Orlando provides him to ensure their customers get a working product. I commend him and AES for doing this. I for one would pay more for these tested items rather than saving a few bucks in shipping and/or sales tax.

Just a few comments supporting Bill... and his simple statement. MFJ get your act together. Quality is Good Business!

Hello VK7SM, I just bought the FT-950 today (12/27/2010) and hooked up the CAT right away. It wouldn't connect with HRD until I set the menu 026 GENE CAT BPS to 38,400 and set the RTS Box checked in HRD. Right after doing this it worked fine. I hope it will work for you too! 73 de Butch - WA4GIF
