1  eHam Forums / Elmers / charging gel cel batteries on: March 21, 2004, 12:27:37 AM
hi all.

i have eight 12 volt 7 ah batteries and was wanting to charge them (one at a time!). i have a 12 volt 6 amp battery charger and was wondering if i could use that to charge them? if not, a local told me that i might try hooking the gel cell up to my little radio shack 3 amp power supply (he charges his that way). i also have a big 20 amp power supply and assorted wallworts.

 will any of these work?

tnx sam/kc8vcb

thanks for the replys.

since i now know that i learned the code wrong (i like the idea of starting out at 20 wpm), how could i correct it? I'm trying to get to about 25 wpm (at least) head copy by field day(if possible).

hey yall!

I can copy cw at about 18 wpm and top out at about 20 wpm[when i say top out i mean TOP OUT].
I was wondering if you cw "pros" could give me some tips on learning to head copy?

i am trying to tune into qso's at abt 18 wpm sending clean code and getting the important parts of the conversation (as in name rst and qth). I also took my hw 8 qrp rig over to my grandmas and set it up outside but found that the ink in my pens were all to cold to write gud or fast so i had to try and head copy my two qso's. I did OK, i got the jist of what they were telling me (i found the one guy had a dairy farm. hi).

I am getting into portable qrp operations and am also just getting tired of using all that copy paper!  i would like to get to the point where  i can get by with just basic notes. Anymore tips any one???

hi yall!

i have the same exact problem! i have the stock power plug and cable. i understand about the cw and ssb differences but sometimes when i key down my power supply (20 amp 22 surge) will go into "protection mode", whatever that means. the display also dims WAY DOWN!

hi all!

i was given a oscilloscope by a local ham and was wondering?

i read that you can hook up an oscilloscope to your radio so you can monitor your cw wave form. how do you do that?

thanks! sam/kc8vcb

10  eHam Forums / Elmers / yaesu 817 - swr meter? on: January 30, 2004, 12:48:30 PM
i am going to try and save up this summer for the yaesu 817 and was wondering if it had a built-in swr meter?

i looked at the manual but didn't see a swr meter but aes says they have one.
