1  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: LIDO MOUNTS on: March 04, 2011, 12:47:21 PM
I purchased a mount for my FT-8900R head in the car. It took a few weeks but the shipment arrived as expected and works outstanding. LIDO solved my problem. I think they have a good range of products. I will buy from them in the future.

Ten Tec has outstanding service folks. I have talked to them several times about service issues and they have trouble shot over the phone and email to avoid shipping equipment back. They are top notch. I currently run a Centaur amp with my K3. I have owned several Ten Tec rigs and other items. Ten Tec and Elecraft are the most response and customer centric companies I have ever encountered. American quality and service.

I guess by now you have found the web site http://www.n0ew.org/k0s/ with the Strange Antenna Challenge for Memorial day weekend.

Have fun!

Jackie,

You put too much effort into to getting where you are today to give it up. Hang in there.

6  eHam Forums / Elmers / Coax Along A Chain Link Fence on: February 23, 2009, 10:17:53 AM
You could just tie wrap the coax to the fence but I would consider placing it inside of 1.5 inch or bigger flexible water pipe (cheap in 100' roll at Home Depot or Lowes) to make it harder for the furry friends to chew. I lost a big chuck of BuryFlex to the neighbors pet and have it now in a 2" flex pipe just on the ground. I now also keep the 12 Ga with 00 next to the door as a backup.

You may have indexing turned on. That will cause the drive to index your files when it is idle.

8  eHam Forums / Elmers / Low power in IC7000 on: May 17, 2008, 03:08:35 PM
If you are in SSB mode the power will be based on modulation and if the mic gain / comp setting are too low the power reported will drop. It helps if you set the mic gain and comp per manual, watch the ALC level. Then set the RF power level for what you need. Too little gain from the mic and nobody will hear you too much and you will splatter all over the place.

10  eHam Forums / Misc / IC-7000 Monitor on: November 29, 2007, 11:12:54 AM
Ham Radio Deluxe works very well with the IC-7000 and has more info than just adding a monitor. I can also recommend the Griffin PowerMate as a control knob.

11  eHam Forums / Misc / Ham radio stores points of interest for garman gps on: November 21, 2007, 09:27:54 AM
The errors of a half a block in GE and other map programs are usually related to streets that do not have lineal address schemes. If the block is the 100-200 block and all the physical addresses are 100- 130 then the map program is assuming that they are evenly spread along the length of the street and will be off by some amount. When we center line streets for Public Safety we need to correct for the numbering abnormalities.

13  eHam Forums / HomeBrew / copper pipe diameter for j-pole and slim jims on: June 08, 2007, 04:01:16 AM
I used 1/2 inch for a J Pole with excellent results and have seen a 3/4 inch plan where the demensions lists were slightly diffrent from the 1/2 design. If you search for 3/4 jpole you will find sites like:

http://www.chem.hawaii.edu/uham/jpole.html
or
http://www.cebik.com/vhf/jp1.html

For 6M the preference seems to be 3/4 pipe and 2M 1/2 pipe.

14  eHam Forums / Elmers / jdr model 3500 oscilloscope on: June 03, 2007, 04:56:05 AM
A 35 Mhz scope can be useful depending on what you expect of it. The useful limit of signals that it will accurately display is of course lower that 35Mhz. It should work well for checking your audio signals and can be used to monitor signals at the if freq. There are several decent books available on scopes and radio use. Check Amazon.com
