My personal recommendation is IC-718, that is not so expensive, very good rx and very simple to use. Adding a cw filter improves it a lot. You can buy one very cheap in Ebay (look for dsp installed)

eHam Forums / Elmers / Ham Shack´s Grounding Point (Plate Vs. Bar)

I just finished a new grounding system using 3 copper grounding rods in my garden, connected to the ham shack using 1 inch copper ribbon.
I had checked the Polyphaser Grounding Plate but I had been thinking about the possibility to replace with a copper rod fixed to the wall.
The last solution is pretty much cheaper than PolyPhaser.
It`s reasonable the exchange?
Do I need to join the different copper straps that come from the rigs and amp at the same point in the rod or could be attached along it?
If a copper rod it`s not so good. The copper plate could be replaced with an Aluminum one?
Thanks for your coopertaion, Javier yv5mbx

eHam Forums / Satellites / Problems tunning a VHF Cross-Polarized Antenna

Hi, I changed my VHF & UHF satellite antennas, but with the VHF antenna I am not able to slow the swr below 1.5 / 1.6 at 146.000 Mhz.
I have a mast pre-amp installed, so I would like to know the looses due swr in db.
May I use it for satellite operation or must I continue the antenna tuning.
Your help will be appreciatted.

I am looking for a portable antenna, I thought in Budipole but the whole set is very expensive for me, so an alternative is the Buddistick.
I would like to hear personal experiences with this antenna or recommendations for a portable QRP HF antenna.
Thanks!!!

I would like to hear opinions about the most suitable rig for a cw operator that would like to take the rig to parks, beaches, etc...
Power consumption it`s an important issue.
Ideas on antennas will be appreciatted too!!!

Hi, Put a Dummy Load at the switch output and the load at the input as closed as you can, maybe with a different piece of coax, if the swr goes high it's a problem with the switch if not could be either the coax or connectors.
The problem could arise due a cold solder at any of the connectors.
If the problem is the switch, look for bad soldering points and the SO-239, maybe a change will reuired.
I had a similar problem with my MFJ antenna analyzer and the problem was the SO-239 of the equipment, the problem dissapear as soon as the connector were changed.
