eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Has this happened to you on EBay?

well, I think you absolutely no leg to stand on, with the price for shipping, you saw it, you wanted it, you saw the shipping price, and you bought it. It's called being responsible for your own actions. If you thought the shipping was excessive you should have contacted eBay and filed a complaint. And not rewarded his shipping price, by buying it. It sounds as if you got a pretty good deal. You said better then half price. so that, is that. On the other hand, you need to send his email about adding you to a national black list, to eBay customer service, that is a blatant violation of eBay policy. and it's probably bull pucky anyway.

well, qrz is down again. It went away during the NA QSO party contest, blocking contest participants from accessing their logs, AND CALL SIGN LOOK UP. the web site is still down a day later. It's a bad weekend for that web site administrator.
Hard to believe that the site couldn't be brought up with in a day.
Note to site owner, leave someone in charge of your company when you go on vacation. DUH.....................................

Well, if he sent you the envelope in the mail, he has committed federal mail fraud, contact the postmaster at your [post office and press charges, through the postal police. And I am sure the secret service would like to have a LOOK AT THE CHECK.( INTERSTATE BANKING FRAUD) TAKE THE CHECK TO YOUR LOCAL AND STATE POLICE AND PRESS CHARGES. Do not let this go unchallenged.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Wi-Fi power output for wireless routers and PC's?

your friend who is three miles away should have no problem hitting you with an average wifi set up and a yagi. here in the Mojave desert I get my wifi on 2.4 ghz at 500 mw over 22 miles away, no problem, with a lawn chair type grill dish. Look for a small pc card wifi set up like a orinoco gold card with an external antenna connection, or a high power 300 mw buffalo card, with an external antenna connection and a pig tail and a yagi.( a cheapy tv rotor is even better. 3 miles is nothing to worry about. The cards and antennas are for sale on ebay as a kit every day. good line of site is better. good luck

After ignoring the HAM COP WEENIES, like flies buzzing around, I use a high power buffalo pc card or an orinoco gold card with an external connector on the card, with a pig tail and either a small yagi or a small hersheys kiss type vertical mag mount. both available on ebay all the time as a package. they work great the hammy cops types, usually live in back waters that are behind the times and don't offer free wireless internet that is usually available in cosomopolitan settings. so ignore them. buy the kit, then you know you have the right connector for your pigtail. I even had a set up once with a small tv rotor, and a 2.4 yagi, it worked fantastic. Just look for free internet connections offered by smart retail outlets, that want your business. I use net stumbler, available on the internet as a free down load, it finds, and with a gps conected to the pc, logs and maps free access points as you drive around. have fun, you will love war driving. ignore the hammy cops wanna be guys...........bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz swat splat!

use this chart to designate your tnc in the unproto Tocall command parameter. this tells the aprs network what tnc firmware you have
APRS TO-CALL VERSION NUMBERS 9 May 2007 ------------------------------------------------------------------- WB4APR Added APDPRS for D-Star originated packets Added APnnnU/D for uSmart devices Added APDFxx for automated DF units Added AP1WWX for TAPR T-238+ WX station Added APCLxx for celllular applications Added APFGxx for Flood Gages
In APRS, the TOCALL is not used for packet routing as is normally done in AX.25. So we use it for two things. The initial APxxxx is used as a group identifier to make APRS packets instanantly recognizable on shared channels. Most applicaitons filter out all non APRS packets. The remaining 4 bytes of the field are available to indicate the software version number or application. The following applications have requested a TOCALL number series:

REGISTERED ALTNETS: -------------------
ALTNETS are uses of the AX-25 tocall to distinguish specialized traffic that may be flowing on the APRS-IS, but that are not intended to be part of normal APRS distribution to all normal APRS software operating in normal (default) modes. An example is when testing; an author may want to transmit objects all over his map for on-air testing, but does not want these to clutter everyone's maps. He could use the ALTNET of "TEST" and client APRS software that respects the ALTNET concept should ignore this packet.
An ALTNET is defined to be ANY AX.25 TOCALL that is NOT one of the normal APRS TOCALL's. THe normal TOCALL's that APRS is supposed to process are: ALL, BEACON, CQ, QST, GPSxxx and of course APxxxx.
The following is a list of ALTNETS that may be of interest to other users. This list is by no means complete, since ANY combination of characters other than APxxxx are considered an ALTNET. But this list can give consisntecy to ALTNETS that may be using the global APRS-IS and need some special recognition:
