eHam Forums / Elmers / Propagation for contacting US stations (WAS)

After many years for not being on the air. I'm looking to complete my WAS award. My QTH is in central NJ. And I need to make contact with stations in NC, DE and southern NJ.
I have a couple of NJ contacts. But if I read the WAS rules correctly. My NJ contact must be at least 50 miles minimum from my QTH. Which only leaves me southern NJ.
During this time of year and sunspot cycle low. Which bands would give me the shot in contacting the above mentioned states.Either in the evening or day time on the weekends.
I attempted to find that NJ contest station during the Museum Ships Weekend Event. NG on either 20, 40 or 80 meters.
Any assistance would be helpful.

Found the problem. I am using a 5 postion coaxial switch. I took the switch out of the feedline set up. And ta-da I have full output.
The antenna switch could have taken a non-direct lightning hit, who knows.
Tnx, Rich

In the past my transceivers have had low or no output problems on 80, 40 and 10 meters. I even borrowed a brand new transceiver to see if I am having the same problem. Yes, even with a new rig I'm still having low output problems on those bands. Could there be some sort of electrical problem that could be effecting my equipment in my home?

Phil,
What's with me and my equipmnet not working on 80, 40 or 10M? Who the heck knows, talk about a concidence.
I tuned up the rig into a cantenna on both rigs. No SWR problem there. I did find that the 12pf cap on the neutralizing var. cap had a cold solder joint.Took care of that.
So I figured that was the answer. Well the power went up to 30 watts on 80m and 45 watts on 40 meters. Not quite the solution. 10M is up to 30 watts also. I recheck alignment on all the het, grid and drive coils. All at peak output.
Both finals and 6CL6 driver tube are new.
Tnx, Rich

I have a sb 101 that has low xmit on 80,40 and 10 meters (30 watts). 20 and 15 meters is has good output (100 watts). Het osc. voltages are within range on the slow peak side. Driver and grid coils have been peaked to max. Power supply bias voltage is good.B+ voltage is also good. So I don't know what could be the problem. Any suggestions what could be causing the low output.
Tnx, Rich

I know I asked this question before regarding no xmit on 80, 40 and 10 meters (internal swr meter goes off the scale). I replaced the filter board with another one (no change). 20 and 15 meters good. Is there anything else that could be giving me a problem? Unless the filter board I got is a bad one.
Tnx, Rich

Dan,
Thank you for the information. I'm going to check with the ARRL on this one for DXCC credit.
Tnx, Rich
