1  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / Hammarlund Decal or Emblem on: August 31, 2009, 02:26:03 PM
Radio Daze has does not have these(already checked), but I could send them an email.
2  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / Hammarlund Decal or Emblem on: August 31, 2009, 01:01:58 PM
I\'ve exhausted my search.

Does anybody sell Hammarlund decals or emblems?  I have the matching speaker, for a 140-X, but it\'s missing the emblem.  A decal would suit me fine too.

I still don't get it.

An 80m dipole, fed with a balanced line, is all of that and then some.

It's cheaper, more efficient and easily made.

The only possible down fall is the additional length - 20 or 30 ft.

KD0CMC, before you go spend money needlessly, research the 80m dipole fed with "ladder line".

When you're done, you'll have a better antenna, and you built it yourself!

Why not put an 80m dipole...vee?

Feed it with a balanced transmission line into a tuner.

Now my question...why is the G5RV so popular?  I don't get it.

Thanks for the update...Bob.
6  eHam Forums / Elmers / Best looking rig?? on: May 29, 2009, 07:22:10 PM
Tempo Model 2020.  What a contemporary classic, cosmetically and functionally!

Just ask me, it's the only HF rig I've ever owned...purchased it new in '77!

Bump....Does anyone know where I can get some
1000pF/2kV silver mica caps?  Mouser doesn't have them.

OK Bob, I'll keep you posted, but don't hold your breath! : )

I won't get the replacement, until I place another Mouser order.  I don't think RS sells these, but I'll take a look.  Where did you get your replacement?

"I too would love to know if others have experienced this same problem"

Well...since you mention it...mine has almost the same problem, and I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw this post.

The problem here only exists on 80...just like your original post.  None the less, that cap will be the first order of business.

10  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / cap's for power supply on: April 02, 2009, 05:28:25 AM
It will probably be difficult finding the "old style" caps.

Mouser sells new caps that should work.
11  eHam Forums / Elmers / Can I take helps with me to an exam session? on: March 24, 2009, 05:00:34 AM
You won't have any problem passing this test...heck you already achieved the Advanced..."back in the day"!

I passed the General test in the late '70's...also taken at the Detroit office.  I got my Extra in '03.  Passing the General was a much greater accomplishment, even w/o the code.

Read the study material, and review the questions at the end of each chapter.  Next...do it again.  After "round two" with your study guide, start taking the practice tests online. Continue taking the tests - until you are comfortable with your scores.  I guarantee you pass the first time!

I would not discount the math problems involved.  If on testing day you make some "dumb" mistakes, knowing all of the material will give you a better chance of passing the first time.  There aren't too many formulas to remember, and there has been some good advice already posted!

My calculator was never checked for memory...HP-28S.  No...I didn't have it loaded with material!

Good Luck!

I'm in favor of bumping to the top.
13  eHam Forums / Elmers / Source for miniature Vacuum Tubes on: March 08, 2009, 05:39:02 AM
I agree...ebay is the place.  There are a lot of reputable sellers.  Check out their feedback first. I avoid those that don't sell many tubes and - of course - those with a bad rating.
14  eHam Forums / Elmers / Radials on: March 05, 2009, 02:08:54 PM
Like most others have said, put in what you can.  I used the DX Engineering radial plate and elevated it about 2 ft.  Don't ask why, that's OT, but with that and about 10 or so non-resonant radials, I am very pleased.

It's not optimum, but it beats the "daylights" out of the alternative.  I have full coverage on 10-40.  80 is another story, but at least it resonates somewhere in the band...3.53 MHz...with a 54 KHz BW.  These results are from the first installation.

Whatever you do, it will get you on the air!

This is OT, but when will Kenwood get with the program?  How can they compete, with a 2000 as their flagship rig?
