Why would they make the same tube under three different type numbers?
Didn't look this particular instance up, but it may also be due to different manufacturers concurrently developing a tube for the same purpose as well. 73

The famous Hammond B3 and C3 organs came from the factory with no fuse in them.
The fuse was taken out of the production line by Laurens Hammond himself, when, during the first year production run of the "A" series organs, a customer call about a dead organ was answered by the owner himself and it turned out to be nothing more than a popped fuse.
So he ordered the fuse to be removed in all future production runs and it stayed that way.
I've often wondered about certain church fires...
And, I also put an AC fuse in every Hammond that passes thru my hands that does not have one.
As for multiple fuses to better protect sections of boat anchors, be careful about that, for example, a fuse in a Plate Voltage circuit is very likely to be working way outside of its voltage rating.

eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Icom IC-735 dilemma - your opinion pls

It needs the following (that I know about):
- VFO knob (I know, it's odd that that would be missing). Encoder seems to turn fine. - rear (short) RCA jumper - one oddball internal mini RF cable terminating in a 3 (or 4) pin connector (found by comparing to a "good" IC-735 - bottom feet / stand
None of the items listed are unobtanium, matter of fact, the cables could be fabricated by yourself if necessary. And a knob does not have to match exactly in order to be fitted to a shaft such that it can work the shaft. I would likely elect to do the cable fabrication using bits from junkbox and only purchasing that which is absolutely needed in order to check the rest of the rig's operation before delegating it to Hangar Queen partout status. BTW - cables ending with headers don't necessarily have to have the corresponding header connector in order to be made to work. I have simply soldered stripped wires to the pins on the board or just removed the socket side from the board and soldered direct jumper wires when such are missing. Since you say it is only a 2 or 4 pin connection, that should be relatively easy going. What you need first is the Service Manual and Schematic, likely available as free .pdf download online, then ascertain the point-to-point connections for the thing, find those points in the radio and have at it. 73

Also, there can be the possibility of chemical aging/decomposition of the substance over time, as well.
Of course, caveat emptor should always apply to any purchase.

The compleat technician would thoroughly check for things like higher than normal Current draw, out of spec voltages, ripple and heating components after replacing a blown transformer.
There should also be a reasonable "burn-in" period on a side bench, with an eye to all of the above as well, finding and replacing such components as mentioned above.
Components such as certain electrolytics, other caps and resistors known to fail in large numbers should be replaced, of course.

Don't overlook the Bootlegger who simply comes on the machine using someone else's call.
It may sound perfectly legit unless you are near the QRZ online database, and even then, sometimes they do their homework rather well.

How best to clean such coils on a roller coaster especially the sides between the turns, without removing the 0.4 micrometer? I have one that looks tarnished. Andrew
The tarnish of silver does not affect its conductivity. It just looks "dirty" to we humans. You can leave it as is and not worry about such. If you absolutely have to clean it, use a product called, "Tarnex" and just put some of this marvelous liquid on the end of a cotton swab and wipe the tarnished areas. This does not remove any silver, it just chemically reverses that tarnishing corrosion back to shiny silver. Be sure to RINSE the silver wiped areas thoroughly with distilled water and cotton swabs as well. If you are experiencing electrical dropouts, it is very unlikely due to black silver tarnish, but may just be dirt. Cleaning with 91% isopropyl alcohol, again on a cotton swab, followed by greasing the roller contacts usually clears that right up. 73

FWIW, so far all three or four of the CASIO keyboards I've experienced used the NO pedal.
Easy enough for the ham operator to ascertain with ohmmeter or continuity checker before buying, though.
Another very good choice for a PTT footswitch are the many types used by secretaries that run dictation machines. Those things are Heavy Duty in build, and often one can be found that was used on the older machines that have now been replaced with digital types, which means the pedal itself can be had for very little money indeed. Keep your eyes open.

G5RV should have an ugly balun at feedpoint as well, to prevent RF from running back down the coax shield.
