76  eHam Forums / DXing / Any Kingman Activations Planned? on: April 14, 2008, 03:33:52 PM
Dan N3OX:

You are correct and I am wrong - according to Bill Moore.

Thank you for your comments. If you ever go to a new one, I'll be most happy to work you from your station.

To N3OX: Actually Rule 10 does apply. You just didn't read all of it.

"Maybe it's just a ham myth, but can't you get credit for a DXCC that you activate if someone at your station works you on your DXPedition? "

No. Rule 10 does not apply to this. There is no way for a dxpeditioner to get credit - unless he goes home and works the dxpedition personally.

At least that's how I understand the DXCC rules. In the past this was not the case, however.
79  eHam Forums / DXing / Callsign lookup before the Internet on: April 10, 2008, 05:05:55 AM
One of the best sources for DX QSLs was the W3KT QSL Service. You just sent him a bunch of cards, and a while later he would return the DX QSLs to you. Almost 100% return rate.

Dave, Thanks. I forgot about that.

TO5FJ has uploaded logs to LOTW.

But I don't think ARRL has approved that operation yet.

84  eHam Forums / DXing / How Long Did It Take YOU to get to DXCC Honor Roll on: March 23, 2008, 06:08:41 PM
1965 to 1975 approx. But they kept deleting and adding faster than I could keep up. So, I was on and off. Still need bs, bp, 7o and p5.
85  eHam Forums / CW / CW keying interface and no serial port on: March 22, 2008, 06:00:39 PM
Check your port setup in your contest program to see if you can use the printer port instead of a serial port for keying your rig. N1MM, for example, lets you do this.
86  eHam Forums / DXing / DXCC Rejects on: March 21, 2008, 03:38:46 PM
Chuck, you are correct and I misremembered what I read http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2002/08/15/2/?nc=1

And I still need 7O!

Thanks,
Jim W4YA
87  eHam Forums / DXing / Origin of "Slim" on: March 21, 2008, 03:23:47 PM
Lindy, Thanks. I didn't think to Google that question.

I worked Slim twice, both on Jan.1. Now I remember Cray Island, but not 8X8A. Maybe some day Slim will reveal his true identity.

88  eHam Forums / DXing / Origin of "Slim" on: March 20, 2008, 06:53:08 PM
In the mid-60s a guy named Slim was on 20M CW on each Jan. 1 saying he was on an island in the St. Lawrence River and claiming that the ITU issued him a call which qualified as a separate entity.

Does anyone remember the call sign he used and the name of the island?

I believe that was the origin of the term "Slim."

89  eHam Forums / DXing / DXCC Rejects on: March 20, 2008, 06:35:12 PM
The ARRL Letter gives a weekly list of approved operations.

I believe there was a complete explanation about the rejection of 7O1YGF in the Letter and QST a few years ago. That operation would have counted if even the slightest bit of evidence was presented showing they were in 7O. It is clear that they were never there.
