You could also consider running an FT-450D with a SignaLink USB interface.

I also saw video of Beyonce "singing" at the Presidential inauguration.   Wink

Interesting indeed, thanks for sharing.

I wish drivers would use their signal lights, stop at stop signs, and drive courteously.  But that's not going to happen either.
50  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Flex Radio 1500 - Great Radio for the money Part Deux on: January 22, 2013, 09:01:07 AM
Yeah, that sounds like a real nice "setup", particularly the amplifier.  Sarcasm.
51  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Chameleon EMCOMM2 on: January 18, 2013, 09:38:02 AM
Indeed! And after you buy the magic beans from AC4RD, I have a bridge you might be interested in purchasing.  With a little knowledge, experience and common sense, one does not necessarily buy something to determine whether or not it is a scam.  For example, I don't need to attend Armando's seminar to know that I will not become a millionaire by investing in the latest real estate flipping scheme.
52  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: To SDR or not! That is the question! on: January 02, 2013, 08:39:24 AM
Indeed Stan!

And I am amused by the reasoning demonstrated by a few recent posters to this forum.  For instance those who have had issues with Flex radios must be malcontents who don't know what they are doing.  But if the same posters can't get their Q1SR working, then those who are not having similar difficulties must be dishonest.

And there are those who suggest we not pay attention to those "negative" hams who point out facts.  I enjoy this forum because I am challenged and learn a lot from those "negative" individuals.  I sincerely hope they are not deterred by the "don't confuse me with facts" crowd.  eHAM and this forum would be poorer if that were to occur.  I've seen that happen on the Amplifiers forum.  A very knowledgable ham rarely posts anymore, which is a loss.

It has worked fine for me today.

Interesting, thanks for posting this.

Very cool Craig.  I have run into a few of those guys over the years and find that kind of behavior despicable.
56  eHam Forums / RFI / EMI / RE: Are there more bad operators coming along? on: December 17, 2012, 06:53:55 PM
I agree with the previous post.  There are more than enough lids on the air, but it's also worth noting that there are still plenty of good and decent operators out there too.
57  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: GigaParts poor customer service. on: December 17, 2012, 08:45:23 AM
I've placed several orders with GigaParts over the years and have been a happy customer each time.  I will definitely order from them again.

Thanks.. I did search again.. tough to dig anything out of the searches here

I am interested in this project too.  Maybe Gene will write an article about it someday.   Wink

Where did you buy the PCB boards for the project from?  Its a shame that the ARRL chose to release the project PCB files in a propriety PCB format.  Gerber files could have been used anywhere in the world. Besides
all PCB packages can import  Gerber files.  Its a real expensive nuisance having PCB boards manufactured in the USA when I could have had them milled or produced locally for a cheaper price.

I did my own PCB (photo etch) that integrates the 2x VRF151 stage, the 2x VRF148 driver stage, and the pre-driver stage onto a single PCB.  With the pre-driver, I needed to take the 0 dBm output of the exciter up to a level that would drive the 2x VRF148 stage.  I went back and carefully adjusted the biases and took measurements again.  Worst case IMD is about -43 dB now.   I used FreePCB software to lay out the PCB http://www.freepcb.com/

59  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Seriously - Why buy a Flex 6700? on: November 26, 2012, 08:22:56 AM

Use the Ignore Button to improve your Signal-to-Noise Ratio
I enjoy the tranquility "This user is currently ignored" the filter provides.

Why come here at all? Using the ignore button only adds to your Flexradio ignorance.
Seeking opinions that only agree with you does not keep you informed. Ask Mitt Romney if that worked for him....  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Indeed.  And while you are ignoring all those opinions you don't want to hear, take the time to look up the pitfalls of "groupthink", something that one does not have to worry about here unless they are ignoring every opinion they don't like.

60  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: Amazon.com and Ham Radio on: November 25, 2012, 08:49:29 AM
Amazon seems to be a place for ordering illegal RM Italy amplifiers.

Other than that, I do order a lot from them.

Phil - AD5X
I don't want to go too much too much off topic, but I'm surprised to read that the RM Italy amps are illegal?? They look like a nice product. They have never been type accepted by the FCC?
Maybe PM me on the amps. I have one for 10M.

Google "RM Amplifiers" or look through the many posts about these amps in eHAM and you will understand...    Undecided
