First, get off-line. Second, get the ARRL Antenna Book and start reading/learning. Third, get with your Elmer and start asking questions. If you don't like the answers, get another Elmer.
Don't get involved with the gurus here. You're at an impressionable age. You'll get confused, befuddled and pulled in all kind of directions.

Greetings all!
Has anyone ever modified one of these for 10 meters CW?
After reading the build manual, it wouldn't SEEM to be that difficult, perhaps just one or two turns off one toroid and then re-tune it, but I thought I ask the "brain trust" first. It's gotta be more than meets the eye.
My reason? The bands are just beginning to open up. Ten meters will be hopping soon, and I want to have a small, ready 10M CW xcvr and antenna at my disposal whenever I want.

If it tunes 40, 15 and 20, it sounds like a multi-bander now.
*ANY* antenna tuner, manual or automatic, would be OK to use to get on the bands you haven't listed. The signal may not be great, but if you don't have the room (or ability) to get more antennas up, get a tuner, use what you have and do your best.
You WILL need a longer antenna for 80/75.

There was one for sale USED on the ads on this site last summer. It was gone when I called. I did ask the seller about it (he bought two originally then sold one). He said, IAN, that the spirals are a 1/4 wave of wire on each crosspiece and the spacing between turns was @ 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch apart. So it's a dipole with each 'leg' in a spiral instead of straight. I believe there is more info about this antenna buried in hamuniverse.com .

Two words, vertical dipole. Run the hot side(inner conductor) up to the roof and the cold side (braid) down. Careful walking on a slate roof. VERY slippery. Run the braid either along the wall OUTSIDE the apt. or along a downspout for stealth. If the wire has a jacket, paint it the color of what it's going to be laying on top of. More than my two cents. 73 and good luck. de K3ANG
