1  eHam Forums / Satellites / RE: NOVA for windows on: Yesterday at 09:20:57 AM
I've been using Nova for a few years now on a Win XP box.  It is a bit of a pain to set up but once you do it works fine.  I don't see why it shouldn't run in Win 7.  You may have to set the compatibility options but it should run ok.  I also occasionally use SatPC32 and it too works very well for me.  At this time I haven't tried any other sat tracking software.  For controlling antenna position I use ArsWin which can interface with a number of different sat programs including the two I mentioned previously.

Does anyone know how the HI Z triangle array performs in an urban environment with minimum (50 feet) spacing?  I would think nearby objects would affect the pattern/phasing although everyone's situation is different.  I too am always looking to improve low band reception.

Read the documents on the HI Z website. My reading of them suggests that a typical urban environment will powerfully affect the way such an array will work. Arrays need, for example, to be a minimum of 200 ft. from a transmitting antenna and any metal objects near an array will affect its performance.

Just did that.  I still wonder if anyone in an urban environment tried this with even a modicum of success.

I agree with the previous posters about the Pixel loop.  I have one up about 20 feet and It works great for nulling local noise.  I also use a reduced size flag that works well for me too.  No room for anything else at my QTH.  Good luck with whatever you choose.

I built a reduced sized rotable flag similiar to the flag design N3OX has on his website but mine uses a fixed termination.  It does quite well for me on 160/80/40/30.  I also have a Pixel technoligies active loop on a rotator which also receives well for me and is great for nulling local noise.  I tend to use the flag more often which almost always receives better than my transmit vertical.  I tried a couple of DXE active verticals in various configurations around the yard with their phasing controller but they did not work well on my city lot.  They are very well made as is everything that comes from DXE but these antennas really need a large open area to be an effective receive system.

6  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: PT0S team, thanks for doing a fantastic operation!!!! on: November 21, 2012, 02:10:05 PM
When I read that they were sleeping in folding chairs and sharing their "shack" with divers and military construction workers I was really impressed.  Hats off to these folks for a great job under a much less than ideal situation.

Worked them yesterday evening on 160 meters CW.  They were listening up 3.  Good op at the key.

Homebrew.  (I'm a software developer by profession).
9  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: How are the 7O6T signals for you West Coast DX-ers? on: May 07, 2012, 07:42:07 AM
I worked them yesterday on 17M CW with my mini-beam.

All the same hats off to this team for traveling to Yemen at this time.  U.S. drone strike yesterday followed by an al-Qaida attack on Yemini soldiers today.  Hope they all return home safely.

I've ordered quite a bit of stuff from these folks in the past year and never had an issues.  Sorry to hear that anyone is having difficulties with them.

Rigexpert's hands down.  I have the AA-230PRO.
12  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: 160M INVERTED L's: Effect of vertical height and number/length of radials on: December 10, 2011, 12:13:03 PM
My inverted L is 35-40 feet vertical.  I did the best I could with the trees I had available and it seems to be performing ok so far.  Euorpeans seem to hear me very well (with 900 watts on CW) and not too long ago I worked T32C early in the morning.  I use about 24 radials of various sizes with the longest at 120 feet.  I plan on laying down more as I go along but this probably won't happend until spring.

I really got a boost in QSO's when I picked up a Pixel Technoligies loop.  No room for any other type of receive antenna here.  I mounted it above my trap beam and the receive noise level dropped from s5-7 to s1-2 on 160 as well on 80 and 40 meters.  I highly recommend this loop or any receive loop for that matter if you don't have the room for something bigger/better.
13  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: 3D2R - ROTUMA on: October 05, 2011, 04:43:22 AM
Worked them on 10m the other day.  They were so strong I thought they might be a "local" pirate but I'm in their log for the QSO!  Really nice signal and excellent operators.
14  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Trouble with paypal on: August 17, 2011, 09:48:02 AM
I've used PayPal over the years with little or no problems.  Typically if you are a seller they need proof that the buyer has received their product before they release funds.  If the item was purchased over eBay they will release the funds if the buyer leaves positive feedback.  You can also provide PayPal with the shipping tracking number and they will release the funds.
15  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Anybody here gone from TS2000 or TS480 to TS590s with experiences to share? on: August 10, 2011, 09:06:47 AM
I have both the TS590 and the TS2000.  At this time I use the 2K for satellites only.  I have done side by side comparisons of the receivers in each and the 590 is far superior for bringing in weak signals.  Transmit (CW/SSB) quality seems to be the same.  I like both rigs a lot.  You should have no issues using mics, keyers, etc. with either rig.
