Somewhere I read about replacing the backlite lamps with a resistor and a LED. I have searched here but no luck. My meter is completely out, any leads to where I can find that information will be appreciated.

I went to R/S today to pick up a couple of the bulbs, 6 V/100 Ma.part number 272-1142. They are called Midget E-5 Base lamp and have a screw in base. I asked if they have any sockets for that bulb, sorry, nothing that small. Does anyone know an application for these bulbs and where you might get a socket for them. I checked Mouser and no luck there.
I am wondering if I could find a socket for the bulb and install it in the back chassis with short leads would that cause any kind of problem with the design of the radio front end. It would sure make it a lot easier to change the bulb with access to it from the rear of the chassis. Also easy to check for failure.
Just some thoughts since I am already about half way there already to try a mod like this.

Radio Shack has a 6 volt 100 Ma Incandescent bulb in a 2-pak for $2.19. It is not a grain of wheat lamp but I think there is room to use this bulb with some short leads soldered on to it. Do you think this is an acceptable replacement?
I already have the finals out of the rig and have removed the board with the relay on it before. I agree it is a "Bear" but just takes some time.
One of the old FT 101's I have here has a #1815 12-14 volt lamp fuse in it rated at 200Ma. That is twice the volts and Ma as well as much larger. It looks like something that you would use in a flashlight. Maybe the front end of the Ft102 is much more sensitive.

Does anyone know what the RF lamp fuse is for a Yaesu FT 102 or where you might get one? It is pretty small and soldered on the antenna relay itself, not like the older 101's with an easy changable lamp in a socket on the back of the rig.
Tnx

Well I think I finally got it. With some help from a good friend and a flashlight It looks like it is going into the Xmit mode. It is getting harder to see those small buttons on the front of the rigs every year. It sure does get frustrating, I guess I am going to have to install a much brighter light over the radio operating position. Too old, too long with older radios that still had knobs on them and glowed in the dark, oh well, so goes life.

Is anyone here using a Yaesu FT920 with a Signalink USB? I cannot get the rig to key , I bought the plug-in module instead of using the wire jumpers. Reading the Signalink manual it refers to the Data-port being activated. I can't find anything in the manual to check that. Everything here in the digital mode is all new to me, any help getting me pointed in the right direction is appreciated.

Tnx guys, that is the kind of information I was looking for. Just going to be running 100 watts max and I do have a couple of tuners as well as the internal turner in the rig.

Has anyone ever replaced the coax inside of one of these antennas. Some varmits got mine and I would like to replace it. I may check with Gap tomorrow to see if is available for purchase.

With this amp in line does the amp have to be powered up to receive signals? If the amp is powered down does the signal automatically pass through the amp relay on both transmit & receive.

Well. I guess that just about wraps it up. Glad to see that someone is bringing back the CY-33, it has always preformed well for us at Field Day. Now if we could all just get together and have a round of 807's to show my thanks for all the help. I can print the manual and have it ready to offer at a couple of local hamfests.
As Sgt. Preston of the RMCP would say, " King, this case is closed".

OK guys here are some pictures of the antenna via this link. //w8kvk.com/WT8E-Pix so everyone can see what I am trying to explain.
Picture # 1 is the beam with the director on the left side of the picture.
Picture # 2 is the driven element with the insulators that I had described.
Picture # 3 is the driven element at the boom, same mounting for the reflector, just a longer element
Picture # 4 is the green label on the trap of the director element.
A total of 6 traps, 2 on each element.
The boom is 2" OD in 3 pieces, 1 @ 80" & 2 @ 50" so when nested together into one piece I would say it measures approximately 14 ft.
I need to bring one of the traps in the house to warm up before I try to remove the end cover. It's 47 degrees and I don't want to damage the cover, maybe run some water on it to help loosen it up.

Hey guys, tnx for all the replies. I see now from my post that I didn't use the right explanation so I will give it another try. Each side of the driven element is insulated above ground, the antenna has a total of 3 elements. It is an antenna the we have used at field day so it has been used on 10-15-20 meters. I have taken some pictures of it and I will get a link posted so everyone can see what it looks like.
I will also take one of the traps apart to see if it is in fact a loading coil or a dual trap along the lines of a Mosley. Did Mosley make an antenna with both sides of the driven element above ground? It seems like Mosley made an antenna called a Classic 36 or something like that, too long ago to remember. Meanwhile I will keep searching on the internet.
