301  eHam Forums / Elmers / what ant would be better on 20m on: August 18, 2006, 03:49:04 AM
Why not?....Build youself a simple Horizontal LOOP for working 20 Meters? It's not very large at that Frequency and there are all kinds of ways you can install it and it "WORKS LIKE a HOSE" a real, SKY BURNER! I use a 4:1 Balun - fed by Coax -  Feeding into #14 Gauge, THHN wire.

303  eHam Forums / Elmers / jps nir 12 on: August 11, 2006, 03:08:00 AM
I believe The "RAYTHEON COMPANY" either aquired JPS or made them and now work more for Government products... than anything for Ham Radio. However a fellow Ham Mentor and friend, found a simple problem that existed within my JPS NIR12, whereby inside, your AUDIO connectors (at your cable connectors)over time and use - the center pin sleeves - can spread OPEN or apart, not making proper contact on your cable TIPS...Carefully using a tool and shaping these back down to form a TIGHT fit solved that very easily! Hope that helps someone, as I would not part with my JPS NIR12...Man what a fantastic peice of equipment! God Bless De N5JFJ
304  eHam Forums / Elmers / Skyloop Antennas on: August 07, 2006, 03:52:07 PM
Man, I ENJOY MY SKY LOOP or SKY-BURNER as we call em...I believe the age old Formula was; 1005 (Divided by the Frequency in Mhz) = The feet of wire... you would want to use for that desired Frequency. Then - if you desire it to be Square divide by 4 or if you desire a DELTA LOOP - divide by THREE = the length of Feet - of each side. BUT...I will say that we have found the sides DO NOT have to Be Equal and it still works, as one of my Mentors say's "Like a Hose" yeah Man the "SKY-BURNER" is one of the Best antennas I've ever used. GOD BLESS De N5JFJ ... -.-
305  eHam Forums / Elmers / PSK...Don't mean HIGH WATTS! on: August 07, 2006, 03:31:46 AM
I seem to have found with this FINE form of Digital communication called PSK, that LOW POWER - "WITHOUT HIGH GAIN AND PROCESSING," is one of the great simple secrets of a "GOOD CLEAN PSK SIGNAL" would you agree?

307  eHam Forums / Elmers / Flexible wire on: July 15, 2006, 05:46:27 AM
I tend to enjoy the Flexibility of Microphone cable, easily found in Music or electronics supply outlets, many are made with good coatings and surprisingly good quality designed well for what they go through in the Music industry! And I suppose I am "Picky" about the color of wires also, but I always end up with Black or Silver with most of these. God Bless DE N5JFJ

309  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / is my coax ok ?? on: June 27, 2006, 03:27:55 AM
I dont appreciate RG58 Coax (ZERO LUCK) - I (Personally) have never had any problems with RG8X Coax, and now use the RG8XF, that has an extra Foil Shield around the copper shield, with it. I use it to build many of my Double Coaxial Bazooka Antennas and it's always just worked great for me. Usually a Kilowatt, or I feel Naked! (Hahahahahahaha) God Bless and 73's
310  eHam Forums / Elmers / Can you Feed 2-double Bazookas with 1 Feedline? on: June 16, 2006, 10:27:14 AM
Thanks, Alan, and I would enjoy hearing More about the use of the Coffee Cans...Interested in that also?Huh 73 DE N5JFJ ---- JERRY
311  eHam Forums / Elmers / Can you Feed 2-double Bazookas with 1 Feedline? on: June 16, 2006, 04:02:05 AM
Hi I really love using the "double Bazooka Coaxial Dipole Antenna" especially because of it's Broadband capability. But I am wondering has anyone ever tried to Feed both - an 80 Meter and a 40 meter - at the feedpoint - with a single coaxial feedline? will it perform somewhat like the Fan Dipole Concept or because of the way the Coaxial Double Bazooka is fed through the sheilds - will that create a Mess? Anyone ever tried this? Thanks and 73, God Bless DE N5JFJ

315  eHam Forums / Station Building / What would you do to build a Ham-friendly house? on: April 17, 2006, 04:01:49 AM
There are so many Great Ideas listed, and some Good laughs. But also try to consider your Shack or ROOM Temperature needs while possible in building, with Cooling and Heating, and/or Relative Humidity??? I tell ya there are many operators using 3-500Z amps, and equipment and lighting that really can warm up a shack in a hurry, not to mention the NOISE of Fans, Window A/C's, etc that get into your Mic audio!!! in that regards consider if you have a guest bedroom area in the location of the shack, that would allow the use of an added or extra smaller Central unit, with your shack location with that Thermostat??? If that is not an OPTION, then at least "add extra Return air ductwork inlet" in your shack room, to your home system. (Then at worst case, you can argue about the temperature setpoints later...Hahahahahaha) God Bless you all DE N5JFJ (Jerry)
