Start with the Shure Microphone support documents (User Guides) and
your Heathkit HW-101 Assembly and Owner's Manual.

Likely a metric threaded screw (M2 or M3).  Computers use M3 x 5mm metric screws for attaching DVD/CD drives within computer cases.
The M3 size in 6 mm length can be found at and Ace or other hardware stores
that has the Hillman small parts drawers.
http://www.hillmangroup.com/locations.html

Good hobby shops have these smaller metric screws.  eBay and Amazon are filled with suppliers.

Icom IC-251
The IC-251 is basically a more advanced version of the IC-211.
The Main unit is almost the same. The PLL and Logic are very different.
The biggest issue with the 251 is the CMOS logic. It "glitches" and is very static sensitive.
The CPU and Expander are no longer available new.
This Icom radio model is generally it is very reliable, and needs very little maintenance.

3  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Alpha 89 Relay Problem on: June 06, 2013, 11:46:45 AM
The Alpha 89 was produced from 12/1992 to 9/2000, 408 units were built during this time.
These units were much like the Alpha 86 (only 274 of this model were built), but with many updates and refinements.
http://www.kk5dr.com/old86.pdf

For the Alpha 89, PIN diodes provide T/R switching, and QSK type capability.
The PIN diodes have been the most discussed issue with the Alpha 86 and 89 models.

Intel is taking the wraps off Haswell-based chips,
five Core i7 laptop processors today and 12 quad-core Core i7 and Core i5 desktop chips today, June 1st.
These are LGA 1150 socket processors, will not fit into earlier LGA 1155 socket motherboards!

Graphics for the Haswell-based chips will be twice as good as the graphics for last year’s Ivy Bridge chips.

More information will be released by Intel on Tuesday, June 4th at the Computex trade show in Taiwan.
http://t.co/9RjSkNNM5n

These new quad-core desktop chips will have MSRP from $192 to $339.
They run from 3 gigahertz to 3.9 gigahertz, and consume between 35 to 84 watts of power.
The fastest chip is a $339 Core i7-4770K chip, which consumes 84 watts of power and runs at 3.6 gigahertz, and you can overclock that to 3.9 gigahertz.

Preliminary pricing for the Intel Lynx Point (series 8 PCH) motherboards will be virtually same as current Panther Point (series 7 PCH) motherboards.  STEP C2 of the Lynx Point PCH, that resolves a USB 3.0 issue, are expected to be seen in motherboards near end of summer/Labor Day.

Go find a nice Miamisburg, OH amplifier product (Drake).

You will easily find 1960s / 1970s CB amplifiers -- that have NO value (seller is happy to take your $$).  Documentation or support, non-existent (hey its illegal).

Old 1960s Radio and ARRL Handbooks have basic schematic diagrams, but glass TV sweep tubes have not been mfg. (Western Europe, USA, and Japan plants shut-down) since early 1980s.

You have to remember that licensed CB operators outnumbered amateur radio licensed operators by the mid-1960s --  by the time the 1970s CB Craze (Bubble), millions of non-technical US consumers had a CB.  This created the garage industry for building/selling illegal CB amplifiers in 1970s.
7  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: Motorola Syntor X9000 - Do or Don't? on: May 30, 2013, 05:46:06 PM
Repeater Build has an entire section on the Motorola Syntors.
http://www.repeater-builder.com/motorola/syntor/syntor-index.html

Skip Hansen WB6YMH and Lee Dusbabek K7KAJ developed the Xcat board.
It plugs into the Syntor X in place of the original Motorola module and provides complete funtionality plus it is programmable by a PC using a Windows-based program. A Syntor X plus the Xcat is a much more capable base station or remote base radio than an X9000 - and much cheaper!
There is a Yahoo Group for Xcat.

John -

Great.
Your experience with Alpha-Delta is typical (stand behind, support product).
Since these coil windings are closely spaced, a failure of wire enamel insulation (breakdown due to UV, mechanical damage [hail], etc.) can cause these issues.

Even with wire antennas, regular inspections (annually) are good practice.

I've called the cement company already.  2.7 cubic yards of 2000 PSI concrete isn't cheap.
The price of concrete is not cheap these days.  That amount of concrete (cubic yards) seems a bit low.
The concrete PSI for some tower bases is also more than this (up to 3500 PSI, depending on tower and engineering).

Quote from: WB6DGN
Not intending to hijack this thread but now I'm confused!  I just heard from the manufacturer of my tower, a 50' self supporting tower, and the base they require needs SIX YARDS of concrete!  Dimensions they gave are 6' X 6' X 4.5' deep.
Yes, you hi-jacked the thread for an different type of tower (Pirod: self-supporting, solid rod legs).

The BASE for a Self-Supporting tower (Pirod in your case) is STRUCTURAL,
supporting entire 50 feet of tower above the ground (mass, weight) and
Resistance to FORCE of the Wind (Wind Load).

Towers and the Design Engineering Spec (revision of TIA-222 when tower first designed or new) do vary based on tower type (guyed, self-supporing, crank-up).
EACH COUNTY (or PARISH for LA) in USA has a stated minimum Wind Speed Rating.

The Property & Casualty Insurance companies and County Building departments know these figures from the latest revision.  It takes into account the frequency and magnitude of hurricanes, tornados, derechos and downbursts (straight line winds).

Other than the mounting brackets it's as though they included all the pieces to essentially make another base. They are loose and zip tied to the base, what are these for?.
I'm new to towers so any help is appreciated.
I have seen variances in this requirement (rebar cage), based on building permits.
IF you have local building approval authorities for your permit, this will be reviewed.
Have you talked to concrete/cement contractors and suppliers in your area?

Another consideration, if your local building permit authority requires a UFER in this tower base.

John --

This has been reported occassionally, by operators running 1 kW amplifiers.
In SOME of those cases, the operator was trying to operate in a band segment --
where the antenna had not been tuned (usage w/o antenna tuner).
Some owners have reported a change in wire enamel and coatings on these coils for better UV protection and heat dissipation.

CONTACT Alpha-Delta Communications in Kentucky, they should be able to assist you with replacement.
They MAY ask that you ship both coils to them for QA review/examiniation.

John -

It is a trade-off, as many things are in the purchase decision.
The H77 motherboard that I used for initial DIY CaseMod design/plan,
has a few issues - such as:

Mini-Card slot does not have USB functionality on connector,
so the Intel Advanced-N 6235ANHMW Wi-Fi WLAN and Bluetooth 4.0 mini card does not work properly.
Bluetooth function uses the USB connection, so it is dead on these boards.
Designers focused on SSD usage of slot, not Wireless.

-- That is corrected on H87 motherboard, with loss of one USB port on internal headers.

I have a working DP55WG mother board (LGA1156) in my main computer running Win7 --
so I am not in a hurry for building replacement in a recently acquired 10-year old HP a-series mATX case (Xmas 2003 gift to my late mother).

Today, the DSP sound card and home computer has more processing ability (not an option in 1970s) --
BUT purpose built equipment has its place and usage.
==
BTW, Most Tono machines are equiped with batteries for memory-backup.
Some even still contain the original batteries.
If you get your hands on one of these its wise to open up the case and remove the old batteries.
Old batteries will start to leak and may damage internal components.
