Assuming the internal DC voltages are stable (well regulated),

You have a component (resistor, capacitor), in the squelch circuit, that is changing value.
This value change could be a thermal (heat) issue OR a leakage issue (capacitor).

Standard troubleshooting with service manual, schematic diagram and
bench test equipment required.

Marvin --

You are witnessing Eneloop battery consumer/retail changes for multiple reasons,
since they were first introduced in 2005.

Where to Buy Eneloop Batteries
http://panasonic.net/energy/eneloop/wheretobuy/

Sanyo pioneered the production of nickel cadmium batteries in 1964,
nickel metal hydride batteries in 1990, lithium ion batteries in 1994, and
lithium polymer batteries in 1999.
In 2000, it acquired Toshiba's nickel metal hydride battery business, including the Takasaki factory.

===
1. Panasonic acquires Sanyo (2008-2012)

On November 2, 2008, Sanyo and Panasonic announced that they have agreed on the main points of a proposed buyout that would make Sanyo a subsidiary of Panasonic and a formal announcement of the acquisition was made on Sanyo's web site on December 19, 2008.
They became a subsidiary of Panasonic on December 21, 2009.

On July 29. 2010 Panasonic reached an agreement to acquire the remaining shares of Panasonic Electric Works and Sanyo shares for $9.4 billion.

By April 2012, parent company Panasonic announced plans to terminate the Sanyo brand, however it will remain on some of the products where the Sanyo brand still holds value to consumers.

3. Global consolidation of nickel metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panasonic_EV_Energy_Co

Primearth EV Energy (PEVE) is the supplier of the nickel metal-hydride (NiMH) battery packs for Toyota’s hybrids, as well as for Honda (Civic hybrid and first generation Insight) hybrids.
The company also provides the NiMH prismatic battery modules for the General Motors 2-mode hybrids. The company currently offers only NiMH products.

The company was known as Panasonic EV Energy Co until 2 June 2010.
The company was formed in 1996 as a joint venture between Toyota and Panasonic, with Panasonic holding 60% of the capital.
Panasonic sold 40.5% of the company to Toyota as a condition of purchasing Sanyo. Panasonic decided to reduce its stake in Panasonic EV Energy Co to speed up approval from anti-trust authorities in China and the U.S.

The purchase of Sanyo gives Panasonic a market share of around 80% in nickel hydride batteries.

In early 2011, it is reported that Prime Earth EV Energy will start mass-producing lithium batteries for plug-in hybrids of Toyota at a factory in Shizuoka Prefecture, south of Tokyo, Japan.

The PL500 (27GB5) was an odd TV sweep tube, 27 volt filament, 9-pin Magnoval,
12 watts, and could handle a peak anode voltage of 7,000 Volts.
The PL500/PL504 seems to have been the most popular sweep tube for
Western European black & white TVs.

Tesla coil builders use it, due availability and price.
http://www.sciencezero.org/vasil/teslina/stdf.html

German mfg. (Braun) used the PL500 tube for audio amplifiers.
Then you get the current audiophiles, look at this photo (how many tubes?)
http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/otl/messages/3/34846.html

Side Band Engineers was ahead of the time with the SBE model 33:
Light weight (20 lbs), solid-state receiver (germanium transistors, as you noted),
and hybrid transmitter.
112  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: CDR TR-2 rotor questions on: March 30, 2013, 04:46:29 PM
Cornell-Dubilier (North Carolina, Cleveland) sold some of the first consumer TV rotators in the early 1950s.
Alliance Manufacturing, based in Alliance, OH was a competitor in TV rotator market.
The Radiart rotors eventually became part of the Cornell-Dubilier Electronics (C.D.E) division.

The 1950s Radiart/CDR rotors (TR-2, TR-4) were FIRST generation designs -- NO braking included.
Radiart Corporation TR-2 Service Bulletin (rare 1954-1957 copy)
https://www.msu.edu/~yurkon/Documents/radiart.pdf

The CDE HAM series, introduced in 1957, added an early brake design for amateur radio owners.
This was improved upon in subsequent versions of the HAM series (see below).
http://victrolla.homeip.net/wo5s/junkpile/cde/ham-m/ham-m.pdf

Cornell Dubilier Electronics sold their rotor division to Telex/Hy-Gain in 1981.
Hy-Gain based in Lincoln, NE decided to support only the AR-22, AR-40, CD45-II, Ham-4, and Tailtwister rotors.
All rights to the other rotors were assigned to Norm's Rotor Service -
that includes CDE documentation or parts for your CDE TR-2 rotor.

Norm's Rotors Service is the only facility with parts for the original units.
Norm's have almost all parts for the AR-22, AR-33, AR-40, AR-50,
BT-1, TR-44, CD-44, Ham-M, Ham-2, and Ham-3 rotors.
Telex/HyGain sold the HyGain line of rotors to MFJ in May of 1999 --
who still continues to manufacture HyGain rotors from their Mississippi facility.

To build a GIMMICK Capacitor for a 40/15-meter dipole,
This is described in recent ARRL Handbooks.

Identify the 1/2-wave point (for 15 meters) on the 40-meter half-wavelength dipole.
At this location, place the Gimmick capacitor.

The Gimmick capacitor is a 24" (2 feet) piece of antenna wire.
This wire is soldered into a Loop.  The Loop is then twisted to form a Figure-8.

The cross point of the Figure-8 is attached to 15-meter 1/2-wave point
previously identified on the 40-meter dipole.

2008 Retrofit to an MLA2500 amp using the Eimac 3CX800 ceramic triodes
done by Lawson, W4EMF
http://w4emf.gs35b.com/mla2500-retro-3cx800-2008/index.html

===
Tony King, W4ZT came up with a schematic diagram (July 2007) for converting the Dentron MLA-2500 to use TWO Russian surplus GI-7b ceramic triodes.
http://gi7b.com/mla2500/mla2500mod.pdf

W4EMF and K4POZ provided assistance and suggestion.
http://w4emf.gs35b.com/mla2500-retro-gi7/index.html

http://gi7b.com/mla2500/index.html

Modifications, in no particular order, that are shown on the schematic above:

GI-7B tube retrofit.
Cathode choke move from the ALC board to under chassis cathode connection.
Input coupling capacitor change.
Cutoff resistor and bias change. Adjustable Bias Board and bypass caps added.
Glitch resistor change from a fuse resistor to a true glitch resistor.
New grid shunt and protection diodes. Resistor value not specified on schematic.
New plate current shunt and protection diodes. Resistor value not specified on schematic.
Metering calibration resistors and pots added.
Harbach SS-100 Step Start module added.
Antenna Relay change to 3PDT Relay to allow keying the amp only after Antenna contacts are made. The third set of contacts is put in series with the bias keying relay and prevents hot switching the amp.
Filament transformer added.
Filament choke and bypass caps added.
New and added filter capacitors, equalizing resistors and reverse protection diodes added.
Dropping resistor in series with delay tube filament to make up for the unloaded filament winding. This value is found experimentally.
Meter switch changes to properly switch the metering and calibration.
===
Based on this work, other amateurs have successfully documented this conversion.
