1  eHam Forums / Elmers / Yaesu FT-757gx power connection on: June 23, 2009, 07:57:06 PM
Thanks to those who replied.  The picture supplied by kc0sdv and the simple (I should have thought of it myself!) solution from k0bg did the trick.  The radio is now up and operating.

2  eHam Forums / Elmers / Yaesu FT-757gx power connection on: June 23, 2009, 09:24:12 AM
I acquired a Yaesu FT-757GX and am trying to build a power cable for it.  I have the plug that fits the connection on the back of the rig, but am unsure of how to wire it.

First, the picture in the operating manual of the back of the rig shows the power connection as having two vertical lugs on the left and two horizontal lugs on the right.  My radio is exactly opposite of that.  The picture of the cable connection on page 17 shows the same thing with the vertical lugs numbered 1 and 2 and the horizontal lugs numbered 3 and 4 (top to bottom for each).

So, which two lugs get the + and - wires soldered to them, and which two are bridged?
3  eHam Forums / Elmers / Kenwood TM-261A received audio problem on: February 07, 2006, 09:11:29 PM
I recently acquired a partially operative TM-261A. It does everything except receive. If I transmit from another radio, and yes I've tried more than one, the squelch on the TM-261A is quieted(?) but no voice comes through. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I should add that the common transmit mod seems to have been done on this radio and the mike, though a Kenwood, is not what originally came with the radio.

5  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Morse send/receive programs on: November 29, 2005, 09:46:50 AM
Does anyone know of a Morse send/receive program that runs on something smaller than a laptop or notebook sized computer?  It would be nice to be able to do really portable QRP using a small device that runs Palm OS, PocketPC, Windows CE, etc.
6  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / charging NiMH batteries for IC-Q7a on: November 22, 2005, 08:02:27 AM
I've got an Icom IC-Q7a and am wondering if it's possible to charge NiMH batteries in the BC-127 charger that comes with it.  The charger comes with NiCd batteries; can trickle charging NiMHs be that much different?  Has anybody tried it with this charger or others like it?
7  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / HTX-202 transmit audio problem on: March 15, 2003, 01:27:42 PM
I recently acquired an older Radio Shack HTX-202 that has very low transmit audio levels when using the internal mic. Transmit audio with an external mic is just fine. I remember seeing a fix for this some time ago. I think it involved going inside and increasing the mic gain by adjusting a small pot on the circuit board. Now that I need it, however, I'll be darned if I can find that info again.

Does anybody out there have any info on this fix, or does someone have a schematic that indicates which pot needs to be tweaked to increase mic gain? I've seen the "mod" that involves just replacing the mic element, but without a RS part number it isn't much help. Any
assistance here will be appreciated.

9  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / HTX-10 is Discontinued on: March 14, 2003, 04:16:53 PM
This is true only for franchise stores, not ones that are independently owned, and not on the net.  Two of the three RS stores closest to me can't get in on this deal.
10  eHam Forums / Misc / Need a Kenwood TS-120s manual on: March 07, 2003, 04:21:20 PM
Anybody know if there's an owner's manual for a Kenwood TS-120s cached on the net somewhere?  If not, anyone able to make a copy of one for a reasonable fee?

Thanks,

Greg
11  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / Kenwood TR-2600a manual needed on: February 24, 2003, 10:44:10 AM
I recently acquired a Kenwood TR-2600a and would like to find a manual (copy would be great!) for it.  If that's not available, I'd specifically like to know if there's a reset sequence for this radio, some key or keys that you can hold down while turing the radio on, for instance.  The radio's display has a few odd characters in it, and it will not let me enter a new frequency from the keypad.  All keys work, as well as functions, as far as I can tell.  Any suggestions?

12  eHam Forums / QRP / Small Wonders White Mountain on: February 06, 2003, 08:30:35 PM
In an e-mail conversation with Dave at Small Wonders the other day it was mentioned that the recently discontinued White Mountain SSB QRP rigs would be coming back in a "new and improved" version.  No info as to how soon, but if enough of us that like the idea of small, self-built, inexpensive, high quality, SSB QRP rigs let Small Wonders know we're interested it might just happen pretty soon.
13  eHam Forums / QRP / power consumption on: February 06, 2003, 08:25:27 PM
My interests lately have taken a turn toward QRP SSB.  I've been looking for a rig that will run decent power (50W to 100W) but can be reduced to QRP levels when desired.  I'd like this to be able to somewhat backpackable as well, and on the surface of it there are a number of rigs currently produced which would seem to fit the bill.

The problem is power consumption.  Though I understand that a higher power rig will not be terribly efficient when running QRP, I fail to see why receivers on these rigs are so power hungry!  Most run well over 1 amp on receive, yet very similar QRP rigs routinely consume only .25 to .5 amps.  Check out specs on Icom's IC-706 and the yet to be released IC-703, for example. Is there some reason that this is so?
