Sure. But after about 10 minutes of silence, it is pretty safe to assume the chap is talking to no one and is holding the frequency, or attempting to, for his daily sked.

Brad,

Anything much over 25 or so feet can cause overloading on the 909 (aka DX-398) I have one as well as a host of other SW radios.

Here are two groups that may offer more insight:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ATS-9090
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DX398
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shortwave-R-A/

There is lots of help any any of these groups.

Good luck and enjoy,

Craig

5  eHam Forums / Elmers / Question : Icom V-8000 and ISS contacts... on: November 25, 2007, 04:21:36 PM
Todd, Read: http://www.issfanclub.com/node/4256

Also do a Google search: syntax, icom+v8000+ISS
You may have to wade through some fluff but there is quiet a bit of info available. Looks like you are not the only one to ask this question.

Good luck,

Ditto, Alan's comment. I see you are an Extra so no need to go into details. Find a pair of suitable LEDs and resistors and go for it. You might want to experiment with colors other than white. Blue and green LEDs, given the proper background, can look really impressive.

Mark,

I have a 706mkIIg and it has performed flawlessly for me. Actually it's the first new model Icom I have had. The used ones have been the 74x-75x etc. and I have had excellent results with all of them. Actually if my 706 died today, I'd buy another without question. You may want to read a bit more on the 706 and other Icom offerings.

Anyone have any experience with Tac-Comm's radio carriers?

http://www.tac-comm.com/

I have a 706 that I occasionally use mobile (actually the rig just lays in the passinger seat) and at home. Their stuff looks fairly straight forward but I though a 2nd, 3rd etc. opinion would be worth while.

I guess this would have been better in the EComm or Mobile Ham forum. But it seems everyone sort of drifts here anyway.

Thanks, Craig N4CQR

Got a little extra? Do some good today!

10  eHam Forums / Elmers / Old DOS Ham software??? on: November 21, 2007, 10:43:54 AM
DOS is alive and well! Hard as it is believe.

I have a customer with a machine shop full of Milltronics   machining centers. None of which is more than 4 years old. All use DOS 6.22!

Want a nice challenge? Configure these machines to work from a conventional, modern day network based around all Windows PCs with Cisco equipment. Once set up and functioning, it is as reliable as the rain though.

11  eHam Forums / Elmers / New 5BTV on it's way! How should I mount? on: November 21, 2007, 10:35:32 AM
This is not a direct answer to your question. It is simply a point to remember. If you install your antenna and somehow discover or suspect your antenna need to be trimmed, specifically, the antenna looks to long for a particular band and cutting one of the tubes seem to be the answer - DON'T. This is generally an easily solved problem. Please ask for help before altering the thing.

You'll like the antenna. Great price, performance, ratio and great manufacturing.
12  eHam Forums / Elmers / 60 Meters band on: November 21, 2007, 10:27:40 AM
My position was to just use and antenna analyzer.

I never gave any thought to someone not having one - and wanting to get on 60-meters.

Interesting question especially so from a legal point of view.

Ask for Mr. Patel

This seems to apply to nearly every motel in north america.
