Google atlas model train wire, used it fo a 5 band dipole.

Having recently ventured into the world of 4g android smartphones have any of you found some usefull/ fun apps available for ham radio antennas etc ?
Tnx

64  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Do these people that want all radios shut down have any basis in fact? on: October 04, 2012, 05:29:29 PM
Understand your venting, but I really could care less about this.
Elmers forum is for hams with technical questions, not for posting of screwball posts on you tube etc, perhaps misc forum more appropiate.

65  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Loading Coil on: October 04, 2012, 05:18:42 PM
I would take the extra needed wire, evidently 30 ft or so, on the short side and find a way to stretch it out at any way you can, as long as it's somewhat in the air it will out perform any overdesigned loading coil.

66  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Your Preference & Why: Log Periodic vs. Trap Multi-Band Beam? on: October 01, 2012, 04:38:42 PM
Last thing, sorry too much free time stuck in hotel; there is no such thing as a trap wire multiband beam, best case just a good old dipole. I'm done good luck.

Okay reread, top of roof maybe 35 above ground but what? 6 ft above roof? save your money on the log these suckers need height not to mention a good support to play well. For the money I would be disappointed with the constraints your dealing with, not sure your gonna get that ahah moment after clearing out your checking account, hi.

Confused, tower not an option, whats the log peridoc gonna sit on , did i miss something?

69  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: OCF wire antenna in deed restricted area on: September 27, 2012, 04:42:43 PM
All I know is that I have a buckmaster OCF at 65 ft. flattopped and the only band below 2 to 1 SWR is 20 meters, so don't expect much of anything with your layout.

70  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: 80M vertical on: September 27, 2012, 04:38:14 PM
I would go with a 1/4 wl, the 70 foot length would be more than sufficent, there is nothing to be gained by making the vertical extra long on 80, especially considering the extra weight and support with 20 more feet.
The real neccesity will be the installation of a good ground radial system to acheive an efficent vertical, should be a killer on 80.
Good luck,
Bob
71  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Noise, Noise, Noise! on: September 26, 2012, 05:56:34 PM
The OCF is a tricky antenna under the best of conditions, what you have described is the worst of conditions. Get the thing off your roof and find a way to get both legs in the air.

72  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / RE: Stealth beam on: September 26, 2012, 05:44:35 PM
As others have mentioned, a properly designed pair of wire phased dipoles will get you a big signal into europe and when reversed, a big signal the other way.  See my qrz page if interested.

73  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Simple Delta Loop versus Half Square on: September 25, 2012, 02:35:27 PM
I would suggest a nice flat 40 dipole if they have the room, the half squares, as stated above, have half of the perceived gain and are just two broadsided verticals in a desperate search for fantastic ground conditions, too chancy as the lower take off angle of any vertical is all due to near and far field reflection, hard to know or account for a beginner.
The delta loop has no real advantage over a dipole unless space is tight as it is basically 30% lower, even when at same physical height.. Any antenna that is chosen because it is quieter would be my last consideration for a first antenna.
Good luck,
Bob
74  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: I need guying instructions for an S9 43 foot vertical on: September 24, 2012, 05:15:21 PM
Loose the pipe and put a 8 ft 4x4 in the ground 3 ft in post hole and backfill and tamp, concrete if permament. A couple of C pipe clips screwed in top and bottom will be fine with no guying. I have used this system with 50 metal pushups for years with no failures.

75  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: SSB below 7,125kHz? on: September 14, 2012, 08:42:40 PM
Assumed the poster is USA/ General and my answer still remains, NO, even with Advanced or Extra call the band bottom on lsb on 40 is 7128.
