I had a similar problem once with the parking ramp at work. I went with the inverted-L solution. Made for some interesting conversations though. Folks would ask me what kind of antenna I was using and when I said "an inverted-L" they would say "No, for 2 meters dummy".

eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Does FOIA apply to FCC tests?

No, the guy's name was Dick Bash and he started having people send him 1 question & answer from the tests that they took. He then compiled them & error checked them and published books of them for all the classes. The FCC took to changing test on a seemingly weekly basis. I think when they came out with the VE program they just wanted to put Dick out of business. Also, they do save a lot of money this way.

You just need to wire it into the 13 pin ACC jack on the back. Don't have a manual on hand here at work. But the manual should give you the pin numbers, then whatever jack the foot switch is looking for if you don't want to hard wire it to the 13 pin plug.

VR2AX is a little confusing. Disconnect the ALC line only and, while transmitting, check the voltage FROM the amp. The higher the voltage on the ALC input of the radio, the less the output of the radio.

"I hate to butt in here, but the safest thing to do would be to get a relay interface to go between the keying line of the radio and the amplifiers' transmit relay."
Most Kenwood rigs (up through my 570 anyway) use a relay to key the amp. Relay is rated for 250 volts 0.5 amp. Will easily handle the relay keying voltage, what safety is gained by adding something else to go wrong? Works great with my old HB 4-1000A.

The first question is what connector are you using for the audio in & out of the 570? It sounds like you are using the ACC2 connector. Then you have to make sure you are using the correct PTT pin, there are 2 of them, pin 9 is for use with the AAC2 pin 11 input. Pin 13 is paralleled with the front panel mike jack PTT. And you cannot use VOX on ACC2. So audio out pins 3&4, audio in pins 11&12, PTT pins 9&8. All this changes if you are using the front panel mike jack.

eHam Forums / Elmers / PK-232 upgrade to USB vs. Signalink USB?

The Signalink is really just a usb soundcard with a vox type ptt. There is no way to do true fsk if your rig requires it for best filtering. However if you want to use the newer sound card based modes, the PK-232 does not do them unless you have the upgrade that routes the audio to your computer sound card. In other words if you want to run RTTY go with the PK, if you want PSK31, Olivia, etc go with the signalink.

I guess maybe I have a different method of browsing the posts. I used to scroll through the most recent topics using the "next" and "previous" links at the bottom of each subject. Now that just gives me seemingly random jumps through the archives. It seems I will have to get used to jumping back to the main forum window to select the next topic. Or maybe just skip the whole thing. Put my vote as thumbs down.

For many years I used a HB vertical with a mount INTO the vent pipe. I used galvanized pipe with a heavy galvanized angle u-bolted to it. Then the antenna mounted above the angle. I did use some guying to cut down on the noise of the thing banging around in the wind. This was a 20 meter quarter wave of aluminum tubing with parallel elements for 10, 12,15 & 17 meters. However the stuff coming out of the vent is damp and I needed to clean/redo the connections often. Be very sure of the u-bolt to the angle iron, if that fails you would have a mess.
BTW, the coax entry was through the rubber collar of the vent. Just bought and trimmed another collar to use above the original and ran the coax between the pipe & original collar. When I took it down all traces were removed. Might be a good trick for someone who was renting their home.

I think the part you are looking for is the resistor only. They don't seem to sell the assembly. From the parts list in the 811H manual that I downloaded I would guess that to be 103-2151-1 a 51 ohm 2 watt resistor. I don't see too many resistors in the online parts list???

The one I was involved with took about 18 months to 2 years from start to contact. However at that time the gal that was on the station doing the contacts was doing about 2 a week. The schedule now has slowed down considerably. Very interesting project. The school got a grant from a local casino (school on reservation) for the primary station and I took me FT-100 for the backup. They recommend 100 watts out on 2 meter FM. Just to be sure to get a good contact. We had a big CP beam on az-el rotator, but I think the j-pole we had on the backup would have worked as well. Have fun! Jim
