eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: Brand New Yeasu Fdx 9000 MP Poor Service

I am sorry to hear about your radio. I do think you are being unreasonable asking for a new radio from the get go. You should give Yaesu a chance to rectify your problem brfore demanding another radio. If you buy a new car and you have a problem, do you bring it into the service center and demand a new automobile without giving them a chance to fix it? If they can't fix the problem, then I think your claim for a new radio is justified. Sorry, just my opinion.
It's not uncommon for new boards or parts to take months to arrive from Japan, plus actual repair time. He shouldn't be penalized for a defective rig. The problem needed to be fixed NOW.

eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: GigaParts

A few years back, I ordered about $6,000.00 in gear from gigaParts. Everything arrived quickly and I was satisfied. Last month, my wife ordered me a new mobile rig for my birthday. When she gave it to me, I had already purchased a new dual band radio. I had no use for the radios. Giga Parts gives you a seven day return policy. HOWEVER this is 7 days after they stick a shipping label on your order, not 7 days after you receive it. Their policy states:
"Radio products have a 7-day warranty against manufacturing defects through GigaParts from the date that we ship your order."
Notice it doesn't say 7 BUSINESS days? Your order may not even arrive in 7 days, or as in my case, I'm stuck with an unopened $600.00 dual band radios that i could not return and have no use for. Yes it was 9 days after they stuck a shipping label on it.
I will not use GigaParts again due to this unreasonable policy. R & L (and almost all others) give you 30 days from the time you receive your radio.
Shame on Giga Parts for losing a good customer for not accepting an unopened radio two days after it arrived.
I had the same experience with them a couple of years ago. The 7 day so-called warranty was up when I got the rig and I had to fight with the manufacturer to get a refund for a defective product.I don't mind paying more for better service so Giga Parts and other El-cheapo shops are off my list.

As I said when starting this old thread Ten Tec's treatment of my friends used Jupiter purchase was far from stellar "As new" would hardly describe the condition of the rig which had a bad tuning knob and developed more faults soon after. Your mileage may vary of course.

Just as an update, a few days ago a couple of bands went out in my friends Jupiter. He will have to replace the relays in the low pass filter board. Not the most difficult job, but he's disappointed that 2 months into the rig he will have a major repair job on his hands. Probably just bad luck. I'm glad others have had better luck than him,but it's left a bad taste in his mouth, and in mine for recommending Ten Tec to him. If Ten Tec would have dug deep and sent a 5 dollar knob when it was still under warranty it would have done wonders for their reputation ,but they chose not to do so. They still have the best QSK, but is that enough?

Very good. he got the knob off yesterday and will contact service about a replacement. Strange how the tech at Ten Tec didn't know anything about how to remove the knob. The force necessary to deform it would have destroyed the rig so ii wasn't shipping damage. 73

eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: AES is Terrible when compared to HRO

I can't say about AES since I've not done business with them in years, but my friend and I didn't get much service when we went to HRO Oakland a few months ago. The salesman didn't know anything about the gear so we had to fumble through the manuals trying to figure it out. Then we went over to look at the case with the keys and paddles in it to ask about a single lever for my friend and he bellowed " No we don't have any keys to try with the rigs!".We walked out, never to return.

He did contact Ten Tec after receiving the Jupiter. The tech seemed convinced the problem was the encoder shaft and told him to open the top and check it. Something he hasn't gotten to as yet. It's unlikely that's the problem. There is no play in the shaft and it tunes smoothly. Just by looking at the knob we can see it's out of round and lopsided. He would rather not ship it back because Ten Tec won't pay the shipping and money is tight.Anyway,he paid top dollar for a rig that was supposed to be in perfect working order and didn't get it so Ten Tec should foot the bill in my opinion. 73

I don't believe it was shipping damage or he would have mentioned that to me. The encoder that I referred to is the remote one that plugs into the Jupiter. It costs around $130. The knob on the rig has no setscrew so its unclear how he could remove or adjust it without possible damage. Other than the knob the tuning is ok.

A few weeks ago a friend brought over a Jupiter he got used from Ten Tec. He bought it with the understanding that it was gone through by the service department and there were no issues. The main tuning knob was deformed to the point that it scarped the front panel when turned rendering the finger dimple almost useless. He called Ten Tec and they offered to either sell him another knob or to invest more money in the remote encoder unit. No apology, or realization that they made a mistake. I don't think he should be penalized for this undisclosed defect He enjoys the performance of the rig otherwise, and doesn't want to create a stink. I just wish Ten Tec could have treated him better. 73
