1  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Shack grounding question on: January 15, 2013, 04:39:36 AM
Before you start running non-elevator related items in a hoistway you may want to look at ASME elevator code which specifically prohibits anything not related to the elevator from being run in the hoistway.
Also the NEC is clear on this subject as well.

For clarity I know this from 8 years in the elevator servicing business, please be careful, this can cause you all sorts of code and safety related problems.

I am not trying to cause an issue here, I just want you to be informed...

On the outside it looks nifty but after looking deeper at the site I found it only supports a few rigs none of which are Icom Xcvrs so no interest from me till they support more rigs....
I hope you fare better.

8  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / RE: Tower restrictions, any attorneys or experienced hams? Need help on: November 01, 2012, 10:47:34 PM
I was wondering, at the meeting where the township agreed to allow the structure would that not have been either recorded or transcribed? are not all meetings of this nature recorded in some manner? I would request a transcript (through the freedom of information act) of the meeting citing where it was stated they were in fact allowing the structure and then press for legal action on the basis of false statements (lies!), bring this to the attention of the State attorney general, I am sure he/she would love to roast a few petty politicians for bold face lies...The newspaper would also love to put this in print...
9  eHam Forums / Contesting / RE: Anyone else lost interest in Field Day? on: October 14, 2012, 12:59:02 PM
I've never had any interest in field day (or any other contest) to lose.

As another poster said as well as this one, "Field day is NOT a Contest!" This is one of the reasons field day in this area is the pits, the president of one club wants to treat it as a contest and it's his way or no way, the other club , well you know where this is going, UGH....so I sit back and chase DX from the cool comfort of my own shack...
10  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: W8AMZ G5RV and Icom 746 on: July 30, 2012, 04:52:37 AM
While i have not used his g5 I have purchased a couple antennas from him, 160 sloper and 40M inverted "T" vertical and they are well made, actually the construction is impressive!
I am very satisfied with his antennas and plan on purchasing more from him, if you buy the G5 or any G5 for that matter just bear in mind that it is a comprimise antenna, I myself use one (not his) flat hung at 55' set n/s and have excellent results the internal matching unit on my 756 proII and 746 pro matches just fine on the freqs it is rated for.

Either way a low power manual or auto matching unit is not very expensive...

Good Luck!
11  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Problem with Cushcraft A3S 20M trap? on: July 30, 2012, 04:46:00 AM
Hi all,

i have owned the A3s with the 40M kit, while the performance of the A3 without the kit was ok and then with the 40m kit it was also ok, my experience was the design of the transition to mount the 40M kit, it was at best flimsy and gave me nothing but problems after a few months (wind etc...I had to take it down several times to re adjust and tighten), I got disgusted and sold it, I now use a Mosley TA-53 with 40M kit and the results are far better and the mounting of the kit is very substantial, I am so impresed with the performance I plan on getting the boom extender kit (adds length for better f/b and an extra element) and the 6M kit....
So my advice from experience is the A3 is ok by itself avoid the 40m add on or just go Mosley if you want multi band use...

Hi,

On the N3FJP website (makers of ACLog) under specialty software is a (I believe free) ham club database software package, try it, may work just fine for you.

15  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Why do CB'ers hate ham operators so much? on: March 15, 2012, 09:54:27 AM
KJ4CJV Said,
"Better be thankful they still have CB'ers because I have not seen 1 single HAM call for help in a Highway accident or pile up!! Whats the chances that a CB'er will be able to call for help?  So just be thankful that their on the road and they have a CB!! You never know you might need them one day!"

I personally used 2M mobile rig to call in quite a number of wrecks, storm damage etc....Don't make statements that are full of holes.

Personally I have a legal cb in my shack because one can never have too many ways to communicate however the cb culture in my area is nothing but ignorant rednecks, my brother in law being one of them, I actually had to sic the FCC on him to get him to stop interfering with my ham operations, he was using a dave made splatterbox which also caused several neighbors banging on my door because my tower is what they saw....all in all cb would be better served if the FCC would clean it up swiftly and with malice!
