Hello all,

Does anyone remember the really cool lightships that used to mark dangerous shoals up and down the US coast? Most all of them were diesel electric...

18  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: What Is the Best Software for Working DXpeditions Using PSK31 In Split Mode on: February 08, 2012, 07:26:26 PM
Hi,

I use Mixw, works great for me.

The contest modules can be a bit tricky to load, I use it for RTTY contests.

For logging all I use AClog.

How coarse and full of malice can people be? aparrently quite a bit, I wish a pox on them and their stations, may lightning be in their futures!!!!!

Hmmmm something about the Kettle comes to mind.

KD8MJR, I know enough to listen and operate as a good operator, I merely wanted to state facts about rotten people, so if you have something to say say it, don't speak in half statements, or are you offended because someone described a behavior you support?

UGH, some people.....

Hello all,

I wish to share this sad thing I heard, during the totally crazy pileups for HK, there were of course every manner of miscreant (read, band cops, idiots, and just plain dumb a@@es) on the calling freq, some of these guys were screaming "what part of up don't you get" so loud I am sure they had sore throats for a couple days (serves them right) but what was really bad is the folks that lack the operating skills to listen to the DX and see where they are listening were being acknowledged by the so called band cops and and actually think that HK gave them a 59 and they are in the log, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!

How coarse and full of malice can people be? aparrently quite a bit, I wish a pox on them and their stations, may lightning be in their futures!!!!!

Be sure to check the online log folks if you goofed you aint in it!

N9ZHW,

I feel you are not listening to your fellow amateurs, this is basically a moot point, noone here is going to assist you in rule breaking, Period!

I did/do not know Riley however if one simply submits a properly formatted and signed (this is important!) complaint with substantial evidence it will be followed through with, I do not know where you get your info from but alas it is dismally incorrect! If you are dead set on using a cb then buy one, use a good antenna get it up at proper height and go with it and relax, whether or not you can key over rubber duck or pig pen is kinda stupid...nuff said...

P.S. I prefer you air anything you want to say to me right here in the forums, a PM is useless as i would just post it here anyway in my response...

Hello All,
My own brother in law is a cb guy, dave made amp, rci modded rig, and all the annoying sounds etc that goes with it, now sadly he lives two doors down from me and has in the past interfered with my legal amateur operations,
I had repeatedly spoken to him telling him that he is interfering with my station and have requested he refrain from using that splatterbox he calls an amp, his response "The FCC will do nothing"!
I also monitered him and several others in my area (yes I own a legal CB, no mods, box stock, one can never have too many ways to communicate) talking about our feud and how much of an ass I am for confronting him.
Finally one weekend during a contest he was killing me on 10 and 15 M, I called him on the phone and politely asked to stop, what I got was a drunken tirade....Told him I was done with him and I was making a complaint to the FCC.
I had concise logs, field strength logs, recordings etc... submitted them and viola, within a few days he got a letter ( I got a copy also from Riley, we had spoken on the phone prior to the formal complaint) to my suprise who comes a knocking asking I call off the FCC, I told him to tell someone who cares and that he brought this upon himself....
Anyway after a few weeks I found out he sold the amp and stopped using power, no longer interfering with my operations I spoke to Riley and he sent another letter basically saying next time will be the demise of his cb days.

This is a condensed version of the events that took place, neighbors from adjoining streets were banging on my door simply due to my tower so I had to be the guy tearing into their stereos, baby monitors etc...what a friking nightmare...

So in closing YES the FCC will do something about it and it was in very poor taste to even ask the question on this site, rules are for a reason...

Hi All,

In reading this thread I decided to look up the operator in question and all I can say is "Yikes" check him out on the "zed" he has a rant that goes on and on, unbalanced is being very nice, I think he would best be served moving to 14.275 or 14.313, I am sure he would find a welcome home there.....

25  eHam Forums / Contesting / RE: Contest logging software- What to use? on: January 29, 2012, 05:23:49 PM
Hi All,

N3FJP has in fact just released an email stating all contest packages have been upgraded/dated and an update to AClog 3.0 is coming, I use ACLog for all my logging needs (I really like the seamless LOTW uploads and downloads) I also use the contest packages except for RTTY then I use MIXW and then just import into ACLog, for the small initial cost it is a great package.

P.S.  He just also updated the FCC exam study software package....

The HQ-170 is working!

Issues found = cruddy tube pins/sockets, cold solder joint...

Repaired joint, cleaned pins/sockets with deoxit, checked alignment, radio is working great!

Thanks for the assistance, oh and I have rebuilt all my older test gear to fully operational status!

Well,

Things have taken a turn for the worst, my LG-1 has no output all I get is 60Hz on my sencore so I am guessing the can electrolytic has failed, I ordered a full set of caps to re cap it, in the mean time tested the tubes -ok- and when re capping will check all resistors, I will also take this opportunity to install a bnc connector on the front panel, so for the time being I am dead in the water unless there is some way I can use the T-4 Signal tracer (like I said I am not that familiar with using this) to improvise?

Suggestions?

Again Thanks,
AJ4CU

Mike (W5RKL) and G3RZP,

Thank You,
I am not sure I understand what G3 is telling me it seems I do not have a tool to do the frequency I need to perform that test, so,
Later today I will perform the test the Mike (W5RKL) is suggesting and let you know the outcome, I also recently purchased a Heathkit T-4 Signal Tracer, although having never used one would this help in troubleshooting this radio?
Also at this time I have no manual for the IG-5280 so I am not familiar with it's operation, I have been trying to find one with no luck.

As for Frequency counters to adjust the LG-1 that is not a problem, I have a Sencore FC-51 and a BK Precision 1823 counter, I also have plenty of disc caps.

I will post later today,

Thanks fellas,

AJ4CU

Thanks for the replies!

There is no change in audio output at all between am/ssb,cw and the bfo makes no changes either.

The test gear I have for this type of work is a Heathkit LG-1 signal generator, Heathkit V-7a VTVM, Heathkit IG-5280 RF Oscillator, and a solid state Signal Generator by ECI that is .2 to 6.0 mHz.

Suggestions?

Thanks for the input thus far guys...
