Hello All!
I am repairing an SB-221 amplifier and need to replace the 1Mh rf choke that grounds the grid on one tube, in looking through my repair parts I have come across an RCA PN-204402 RF Choke however I have no RCA parts guide to identify it. Does anyone have any info on this part??? Please help...Thanks in advance...

Please guys I know all about tying the grids right to ground but in the case of another issue that caused the burn perhaps it is best to have something to burn rather than a more expensive part, beside this is for another ham and he wants it like it was designed.

HI,
I agree with the other poster on this, meter not very important but fused and three wire, yes! I have two and both are like that. My addition to the thread is be sure to get yourself a good isolation transformer, remember the "5 tube all american" has a hot chassis and you want all the isolation you can get.

eHam Forums / Amplifiers / SB-221 burnt choke, updates?

Hi All!
Repairing an SB-221 due to the rf choke on the grid having burned up, this is what I have done so far.
Replaced the capacitor bank with a harbach upgrade. Replaced the .82 resistor on the meter board. I am looking for the large stud mount zener diode heath part # 56-82 crosses to 1N3996A 5.1v 10w I am having little luck finding this...
Anyway I hear rumors about directly grounding the grids leaving out the chokes and caps, I have done a search and have found nothing related, is there anyone familiar with this mod?
The Tubes show no shorts so I am wondering what may have caused this?
Anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks for any and all help.

eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / Hammarlund HQ-170 info needed

Hi All,
I recently acquired a very nice condition HQ-170.
The owner had disassembled it to give it a cleaning and re capping, it has come into my posession still in pieces and I am not sure how the front panel mounts.
Does anyone have a couple of photo's of the panel mounting with the rear housing off?
Also does anyone know of any sort of stencil to repair some rubbed off dial markings around the control knobs?
Thanks for any and all help.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Rudeness in the 75/80M DX window unacceptable
|
on: March 01, 2008, 06:06:50 AM

Hi All,
I was just sitting doing some paperwork in front of the rigs (this was about three nights ago) and had one tuned to 3.800. For quite some time the freq was silent except for the normal static crashes and noise, then came a very strong and clear signal asking if the freq was in use, the op used proper procedure, clearly asking if the freq was in use and identifying himself, this he did twice and in hearing no reply after a few minutes he started to call "CQ". Now correct me if I am wrong but 3.800 is right in the middle of the DX window and there is no rule regarding where one may call CQ. So with that some crusty sounding miscreant came booming "why are you calling cq on this freq?" The other station replied "I don't understand" The miscreant replied "you don't know much about radio do you?" the good op replied "I guess not" and went away. The miscreant never identified himself and was as rude as can be. I thought of replying to him and letting him know just what an ass he was but I realized I would just be lowering myself so I figured I would post here and see which miscreants come out to flame me and that would identify the ones who behave the same way. Folks the rules are clear noone owns a specific freq if you have been meeting your "bud" on a specific freq and someone is using your freq well jeepers there is a whole lot of band to find using that knob attached to the VFO! Also, how else will one call in a DX window to find contacts?? I will continue to call call CQ where I please (according to the rules that govern us all of course) and will qsy if the freq is in fact in use. I will also happily forward a signed complaint to the FCC of any amateur that is rude or behaving like a lid. OK the Nomex is on flame away and let's see who the miscreants are....

Hi,
I used an A3 for a while with the 40M kit everything was great until the joints for the 40M kit started getting flimsy, it will need to be pinned for best results. And yes do mark the traps....
I have since gone to mosley antennas and the A3 has been retired to my 50' portable tower.

eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / 756 PRO ll-- only 1 watt out.........

Hi,
I had a recent failure just like yours, rig was working fine one night and the next day no more than 5 watts out. I sent the radio to Icom in Wa. and they found the following, "thermal bias diode failed, PA drivers failed". 183.00 + s/h and the radio is fine now.
I wonder what could have caused this issue in my rig???
anyone?

Hi all,
I own an Icom 756 ProII which has been performing perfectly until tonight, I powered up the rig and heard a VE6 I thought I'd like to work and stepped on the foot switch and noticed no more than around 5 watts output so I said to myself, self this is not good! I reset the radio (factory reset per the manual) disconnected my I-mate, sound card interface, amp, mic and everything else, I connected a stock mic and connected the rig to my Bird dummy load and still no more than 5 watts out, I tried all modes and bands.
I opened the radio and found no burnt parts, checked all connectors etc...Re- assembled and tested still no joy....
Anyone else run across this problem?
If I need to provide more info please ask.
