Heard W0LMD on 20 meters yesterday (12/01/2003, he was using the "new" digital mode for SSTV and said he had been experimenting with digital SSTV on AO-40 lately. If it sounds like a "buzz saw" then that is digital SSTV. Also can hear the digital sstv on 14.233 on 20 meters. Check out SSTV-PAL: http://www.kiva.net/~djones/palmm.htm This will decode "standard" analog or the new digital mode. Also on AO-40 the "Doppler effect" may cause errors, So keep your one hand on the dial.

Have heard "rumors" that MixW 3.0 version may do this. It is in beta testing now, no release date yet. Also check out Ham Radio Deluxe, that may be the next competitor to MixW. Ham Radio Deluxe: http://www.kns.ch/sysgem/hb9drv/HamRadioDeluxe.htmGuess the best way if you have MixW or other soundcard software, keep the rig off and try the different modes and listen to what they sound like on your speakers when you press the TX button, with a litte listening, you can determine what mode it is by the sound.

Once you have downloaded the Mfx000.exe file, double click on that, is should give you a MCP_f6F7.exe in the directory you extracted the mfx software. Double click on the MCP_f6F7.exe and you should see three tabs, Memory, Menu-1, Menu-2. On the right side should be the three bands 144MHz , 220MHz, 440MHz, highlight the one where you want to program a frequency, then on the left side double click a channel and enter the frequency, like 146.520 or a repeater frequency. Accept the defult off sets unless it is a special off set for a repeater. You should be able to program frequencies in and save the file as "*.fx" with out connection to the radio. View the Menu-1 and Menu-2 tabs, they are pretty much intuitive. Created a folder on my hard drive called "THF6" and extracted all the software there and saved my memory files there. When you have the cable, click on the MCP_f6F7.exe and bring up the memory file and then write to the HT.

Not much help is true. Enter in the frequencies, tones and give them names is about it, but is faster than keyboard entry. When you get the cable make sure that Menu 9 "PC" is selected, press "MNU" after "PC" is selected or it will go back to default setting. Then when your through set Menu 9 back to "SP/MIC" if you plan to use a external speaker michrophone. Com port settings are standard 9600, 8N1, no hardware flow. If the error message "unable to communitcate" appears on the computer, turn the HT off for a second or so and back on with the cable inserted into the HT and computer, seems to be fussy at times.

eHam Forums / Elmers / New interference from PLASMA TV?

Check the RFI files on the ARRL site, they have some good trouble shooting ideas and possible fix. Had a TV Cable RFI on two meters from channel 13 Cable in a apartment building I lived at. It was a bad leaking Coax connection in the apartment right below me. Could be other than Plasma TV. The ARRL was very helpful in their advice when contacting the Cable TV company. Cable company does not want leakage either, could cause problems to those who are not on cable TV in the near RF field.

Use Hamscope with the MTTY "engine". Hamscope has the good old "cross hair" scope tuning aid and also will do PSK, Packet and few other modes. The soundcard has much better audio filtering and MTTY has filters built in a number of filter designs and you can switch to see what one works the best. Think that the soundcard method is much better than any "hardware" scope or filter you could build. Hamscope: http://www.qsl.net/hamscope/

eHam Forums / Digital / Best interface for sound card

Of course home brew is the least expensive. Not really much to the interface. A Transistor switch off the serial port and a resistor audio pad to the mike. On the ones you mentioned they should all do what is needed, pick the one that best suits your budget and needs. Lot of the soundcard software has a simple interface drawing. With the computer you have might want to stay with DigiPan or Hamscope. The soundcard mode software that has more features than those take at least a 200 mHz CPU.

Dave, also Kenwood has software for the rig, one is free on the Kenwood site (ARCP?), mostly a memory manager and menu manager. There is also a program that Kenwood sells that can control the rig, but I understand that you buy it and there is not much support from Kenwood. For almost the same amount of money TRX-Manager is a better purchase and there is a egroup supported by the author of TRX-Manager on Yahoo egroups, and he is involved with suggestions and improvements of the software.

Dave, depends on what and how much you want to do with the TS-2000 (happy owner here!). There is TRX-Manager wich can control the rig from the computer, save and edit and program memoiries, along with some other features, log, terminal, (web) DX Cluster, rotor control, satellite doppler control when you use satellites on 145 and 432 and more, see: http://www.trx-manager.com/ There is MixW 2.x which is multi mode soundcard software, most of the soundcard modes like PSK, MFSK RTTY, etc and CAT control (this takes an extra serial port or a USB to serial converter if you only have one serial port on the computer. MixW site: http://www.mixw.net/ Also Logger, Hamscope and a few others offer some CAT control and soundcard modes, but use MixW here and it works well for me.
