I purchased a Belkin USB Serail Adapter.  How does one configure the serial port to "read" a device or use as a PTT control with Hamscope or DigiPan modes PSK31, or MFSK.   I am using a AMD K6-2 500 Mhz with 264 Meg of RAM, Windows 98 second editon.  So far when I attempt to use the device the error message "unable to open com 3" where Windows hardware manager installed the USB serial adapter.
I am using Com 1 port on the computer to read the Icom IC706 MkII using the ARCP program. The motherboard only has only one serial com port.

Thank you for the information, the filter capacitors sound like a good place to start.

Thanks for the suggestion on a filter, it seems like the "whine" is about in the 1200 Hz range in frequency.  I will get out the tusty old handbook and build one.  No schematic for the power supply.  The FT-107 and the power supply belonged to my father, SK a few years ago.  I found the operating manual dated 1980 for the FT-107 in his shack.

Thanks again & 73,

Jerry

High pitch noise "whine" from a Yeasu FP-107E power supply is on the receive audio both on the fixed low level  audio out in the rear and also the speaker of the FT-107.  It is not the FT-107 as I also have used the power supply on another radio, same noise on the low level audio out and speaker audio.  What would be the best way to eliminate the "whine" noise?  Use a large capacitor on the DC Output of the power supply?
