1  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Any Updates On Glenn Baxter K1MAN? on: March 13, 2011, 12:01:53 PM
Who cares as long as the Moron is off the air and fined for all his illegal activity. Jail time would be good.
2  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: Yaesu Hates Their Customers on: February 02, 2011, 06:46:41 PM
Yaesu doesn't want to help their customers with problems that they are at fault for. Their new "improved mount" for the FTM-350R is as bad as the first. I wrote yaesu and told them about it and you should see the reply I got. They told me that Lido makes a better mount for their control head. A WASTED $30 AND THEY DON'T GIVE A S_ _ _! They need to learn the word of mouth in the Amateur Radio community can either help you or really hurt you.........
3  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: Universal Radio, Inc. = EXCELLENT! on: January 10, 2011, 12:57:58 PM
UNIVERSAL RADIO IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH FOR RADIO EQUIPMENT. WHEN I CALLED I WAS KEPT WAITING ON THE LINE ON HOLD FOR 20 MINUTES JUST TO GET A SHIPPING PRICE BECAUSE THE WEBSITE WOULDN'T PROVIDE IT. IT TAKES A SEPORATE EMAIL. I HUNG UP AND CALLED BACK AND WAS ON HOLD ANOTHER 15 MINUTES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THEN AFTER GETTING THAT ANSWER; THEY CALLED MY HOUSE TWICE TO TELL ME THINGS I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD WITH THE FIRST CALL ABOUT THEIR SHIPPING. THEN THEY CALL TO TELL ME ONE OF THE ITEMS I ORDERD WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THEIR DOING. Fact is now I will never order anyhting from Universal Radio. Their reputation for service to their prospective customers is extremely poor.
4  eHam Forums / Emergency Communications / RE: Greatest Threat to National Security we never even think about. on: January 06, 2011, 07:43:18 PM
I think you need to become educated in the advancements of medicine and management of public health emergencies. Your figures are way off base. I think you need to rethink your post. You completely missed the boat on the figures you dug up from the CDC. Please re-read and endevour to understand what it is you are even trying to say. Being an extremist is not healthy for you or the good of the Amateur radio community, let alone the world. Leave dealing with this kind of thing to the professionals.

5  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / Source of small parts. on: April 05, 2010, 12:41:58 PM
I don't do alot of building but have need to build a cable for a SignaLink USB. I am in need of a couple of small parts but cannot find them in any logical place on the net. So I think I came to the right place to ask for help, the home of the real hams (builders).....
I have need of a "2.7k 1/4 watt resistor" and a "0.1mf non-polarized capacitor". Any help from the experts as to where to find them?

Thanks for the reply. The plan is to give that a try.

I recently ordered an SignaLink USB. I ordered the wrong radio cable. Seems I cannot figure out what cable (premade) I need to connect the SignaLink USB to the data jack on an FT-890. I do not want to use the mic jack. Any help from other users?

9  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Self-contained QRP digital mode rig? on: March 22, 2010, 07:30:15 AM
Sorry to be a repeat. Seems many of us really like the Nue PSK unit......Best of all it's not all that expensive...hi hi!
10  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Self-contained QRP digital mode rig? on: March 22, 2010, 07:27:49 AM
Seems to me that if all you may want to add is a laptop; that's two pieces. Well if you want it that simple (that I understand, I like easy and simple)You could use the Nue PSK digital modem. It will work PSK and RTTY. No computer needed and its only connections are to the radio and to the keyboard. That is lighter and easier to carry than having a laptop to lug around. I use the Nue PSK modem with both my FT-857 and FT-817. Works wonders with a simple vertical or dipole. I hope that will fit what you seek...It's pretty close. Good luck. Hope to find you on the air.
11  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Portable antennas for PSK31..what u using? on: March 05, 2010, 12:00:08 PM
I have found that the "YO-YO Tenna" and what ever length of Belden 58U coax I need to to reach my FT-897(with 17 amphr battery) works very nicely. Easy up.....Easy Down. All fits in a briefcase.
12  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Windows users aren't going to like this. on: March 05, 2010, 11:42:23 AM
Try the Nue PSK Digital modem....."No Computer AT ALL".

When I worked as a Paramedic years ago I used to send an EKG to the hospitals without any modem via radio. We had a small 4 lead "box" placed on the chest and held the radio microphone over it.....BINGO, the doctors had their ECG. Seems like an old trick to me. I was doing this in 1975.

14  eHam Forums / Digital / Macros after calling. Annnoying or Lazy. on: March 05, 2010, 11:24:28 AM
I have been using PSK31 for a couple of months. I find the rude use of macros annoying. Most QSO,s all I get from the other party is a bunch of annoying MACROs that are just sent in their order. What I receive has nothing to do with saying "Hello", answering a question or getting to know another operator. Tough to say I worked someone when in reality I never really made contact. If all you are doing is running up a QSO total, why bother. I have come to the point of doing something I saw suggested in another e-Ham column. I now feel the need to Call "CQ CQ CQ Ragchew Ragchew de N2WEC pse K" I understand there is a use for macros.... I don't think they were intended to replace the Human Brain or the Human Side to Amateur Radio
