1  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Astron power supply Squealing on: August 03, 2008, 11:06:26 PM
Hi all, I have a 10 amp astron power supply.  It has been good to me for the most part but recently developed a squealing noise.  I opened the case trying to pin down exactly what part is making this noise.  I was thinking possibly the transistors or a capacitor?  Any ideas?  Thanks

The sheet of metal acts as a ground plane for the antenna.  I don't know why you would need to use more than one radial if the antenna works as its own radial.  The need for a grownd plane for a base is simple as well.  On a vehicle, say mounted on top of a truck, the antenna radiats and is designed to plane or shoot up off and in many directions sidways to move away from the antenna.  If you stick it up in the air and mount it without anything for the radio wave to reflect off of the signal would not be as strong or throw off your swr's becase moble antennas are designed to be used with a ground plane.  Think of it this way, if you were being pushed away from a pole and there was no ground around you, you wouldn't go very far, besides straight down.  But if you had ground to run on to get away from the pole you could get farther away faster instead of straight down.  If that is not confusing enough, I can try again later.  Good Luck.

It is one of my dads old antennas that he bought for his cb at work.  He said he used it on his cb.  I looked it up on the net and found it and the site said it was an 11 meter antenna as well.

I have a maxrad antenna that I put up for use on a 2-meter radio.  I recently found out it is an 11-meter antenna.  My question is if the swr's check out ok is the antenna still ok to use with my radio.  I checked the swr meter on several other antennas and different radios and it is working fine.  So if I get a good swr reading with the my radio and the maxrad I should be safe, Right?
9  eHam Forums / HomeBrew / How do I convert a 60 in cb antenna for 2-meters on: March 04, 2003, 01:55:51 PM
Thank You.

So if I took #10 wire in a quarter wave length and rapped it around a wood dowl or would I have the wire strate it would work.  Other wise I think I can manage.

I have a cb antenna that is 60 inches long.  It is black and is not a base load.  It looks like there are two wires that coil around the pole to the top.  Is there any way I can convert this cb antenna for two meters or other mabe other cb antennas.
