1  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: Can someone Help me with my Vhf radio problem??lol on: April 17, 2012, 06:21:37 AM
okay, I am not going to do it if it is illegal, but i wasn't aware it was illegal if I was authorized to use the Frequancy. It doesn't make much since to me that you can use commercial radios to talk on Ham frequancys but you can't use higher freq on them. Oh well, thanks for the Info everyone!
Does anyone know of any good VHF commercial radios for a decent price? Thanks!

3  eHam Forums / Misc / Dopplor radar... on: June 11, 2009, 08:24:18 AM
Hello, I am Jason KD8FDD and I live here in Grafton West Virginia. I have been using the radars off of Skywarn.org, It is so fuzzy that you cant even tell if the storm is rotating like a supercell thunderstorm. I am looking for a radar that will show that but also the "hook echo" where their could possibly be a tornado. Most radars that I have found are still, they dont even show which direction their moving. I have weather bug on my computer but it is almost useless. Does anyone know where to find a good radar?
Thanks kd8fdd

Hello I am Jason kd8fdd. I am 15 years old and I have had my General class license for over a month. I have been operating Phone, CW, SSTV, RTTY and my favorite PSK 31. I have been enjoying it on 80m and 20m however my favorite band for voice is 17m for the DX. Is there any PSk 31 on 17m.

Hello I am Jason KD8FDD. I am needing some old UHF radios to experiment with. I am setting up a UHF echolink repeater in the area. I am looking for some old 440 radios. I have 3 HT's but I wan't a 25 watt radio for here at the house. People say 440 radios are dime a dozen, that may be true but I can't find any. Because I will be experimenting I don't want to spend a'lot of money. Does anyone have any suggestions for some radios?

Hello everyone. I am KD8FDD Jason, I am 15 years old but I have had my License for about 2 years. I am looking to set up a cheap UHF repeater. I have a couple recievers but I am looking for an old UHF mobile radio for a cheap price so I don't have to worry about breaking it. I am going to order a controller and the connection kit. I am not planning on running a duplexer, and the repeater wouldn't be running any more than 10 watts. The antennas will be seperated by about 20 feet vertically. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this project work better?

I understand all that but, echolink software would have id by voice or cw. Could I build a filter system and get the freq cordinated.

Hello, I have a few questions about repeaters. I have had my license for about a year now. Can you take a low cost scanner or reciever and make it to where it recieves and transmitts the recieved signal full time just like a repeater. I was thinking that you could build something to where when it recieves something it key's the trannsmitter. I was told you could do this but you need a duplexer. To overcome a need for this could you just seperate the antennas by about 15 feet and use it just like a repeater. I don't wan't to spend 2,000 dollars to put up a repeater for echolink but I may set something up like this. Can anybody give me a suggestion. 73's kd8fdd

Hello  i'm 14 and a teck license as well. On 10 meters voice you have 28.300 to 28.500 mhz. You may wan't to get a recent band plan because teck's have privledges on morse code on 3 or 4 bands. But get you a 10m 100w hf radio usb{upper side band} and a power supply, and bulid you a halfwave 10m dipole. I've had my teck license for a year now and a few months ago i built myself a dipole and for the past few month's i've talked to florida, north east and texas. 10 meters is a odd band sometimes it is not open for days then for 3 hours it is opened across the usa. 10m is going to pick up here in the next year so they say. 73's drop me an email at kd8fdd@juno.com

Hello, my name is jason kd8fdd i am 14 years old. I run an echolink net on tuesday evening at 0100z on conference *wawv*. I have my simplex link linked in with several other links and that works great. I link in two repeaters that both have courtesy tones and id's. Can you set it up to where the courtesy tones and id's don't go over the internet. 73's kd8fdd

I wouldn't do it. It's a waste of money. If you don't pass it you need to study more because the second test is just as hard.

I agree with you. I am a 14 year old ham and I really enjoy the hobby. When I come to these postings I understand why there's not many people coming into the hobby.
