A second thought...I have seen many rotary dials that are the cheap clicker units..(which after a proof read this one is)there is usually a common post and then two connections ..one for clicks clockwise and one for ccw.
Looks like page 2 of the PDF ,S-3004 on the disp unit. If you can a jumper wire of some sort hit at the correct contacts, it will tell you if its the knob or the ic chip. Or better yet if its easier ...on J-3001 if you hit either pin 2 or 3 to ground and the radio steps up or down....it's the knob, if not most likely it's not worth it.
Or you can get at it at J-2005 pin 2 and 3 on the CTNL_UNIT
Does the microphone buttons operate the channel/vfo function ?

Can you see that the antenna was raised? Reason that I ask is that if someone asks why he is giving them more signal than in the past, it is likely he would say "Yeah I raised the antenna a couple of feet" to cover the use of an amplifer.
Did you ever hear him through the clock radio before the "antenna move"? overload on the clock radio that never existed before would indicate more RF power being transmitted.
Not that you can stop him,but I would like to know what worked or didn't on your end.
Snap on ferrites helped me with some of my stuff ,my neighboor has a cb antenna 80 feet from me and he still gets into some stuff around here.
Good Luck, Mike Froehlich KB9JXZ

Good afternoon,
You can still hear narrowband transmissions on your radio, they just sound a little more quiet compared to wide band, now if your filtering in the IF section is real wide, you could get some splatter from ajacent channel. TX.. not an issue.. unless there is hams using narrowband..I know my VX-7 has the narrowband option but I don't see it being much use unless we are going to follow along with the rest of public service. Or get a newer non-ham radio, I just programed several kenwoods (TK-8160's) to narrow band on the one channel of the radio that we just installed a new narrowband repeater on to replace the old wideband repeater. the rest of the freqs are still wideband.
hope this helps, 73

A little FYI for those who may not know yet. My company along with many radio companys all over the country are in the process of getting all commercial/public safety type frequencies re-licenced for narrow band and making sure all of their radios are narrow band capable or replaceing them with one that are. This also includes base and repeater systems. Some of these repeaters have ran 24/7 for over 20 years or more and complete communication rooms are getting completely replaced, duplexers and all if they are old enough. Good info at this link, or just google it or whatever. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/nij/topics/technology/communication/fcc-narrowbanding.htm I searched and did not see anything here so ..for what it's worth ..thought I would share,we have replaced a lot of good quality radios with narrow band capable ones. 73 all Mike Froehlich, KB9JXZ

Not out of the loop - ahead of the curve. when those radios first came out, there was no chipswitch. And still the only way to get a htx on 12.
as posted :
" But either way there is a pair of capisitors that hold a charge on the main cpu ( the 64 pin ic on the small circuit board ) Pin 32 and one other is tied together and should show voltage even with power removed with the proper HIGH impedance volt meter. They hold the memory channels and other saved data in the chipswitch. If one wanted to make sure that EITHER cpu is reset is to assure there is no voltage present on any of the pins on the main main cpu. AND trust me, its takes several months for those to bleed out on their own. "
This would be the reset procedure.Make shure there is no voltage on that ic and it WILL be reset.

Never saw a "CB illegal chip" for the 2510/2600/Lincoln but I do have a chipswith for my president lincoln. With that there is a reset procedure plus split operation, memory channels,12 meters, ect. But either way there is a pair of capisitors that hold a charge on the main cpu ( the 64 pin ic on the small circuit board ) Pin 32 and one other is tied together and should show voltage even with power removed with the proper HIGH impedance volt meter. If you can't find the info you need, let me know,i will dig out my notes. It's been awhile but I know those radios very well. BTW any info on the Radio Shack HTX-100 will help you. It's the same radio and also will do 12 meters/cb along with any of the other three even without the chipswitch if you change the 24 mhz crystal and tune correctly. ie. 21 mhz crystal = 25.000- 26.700 ect. you just have to know how to subtract :-) I have one that I even modded to 15 meters (yes clean output and all)but it was a lot more work than the average guy would ever spend on a radio.

("And filling the hollow leg with a solid material will allow moisture to accumulate rather than drain out the bottom on a properly installed tower and thusly causing corrosion and weakening of the tower leg and ultimate failure. ")
If a hollow leg is filled, how can there be any room for moisture??? I am well aware of larger towers, I have been on most of the tallest ones in the Chicagoland area either working on broadcast or public safety. Built quite a few also. I do understand the need of a tower that can handle the load. A hollow feedline is filled with foam, but with no moisture even in the hollow center conductor (7/8 on up.. and yes I know rigid and wave guide is a different story, ran that stuff also.)
And what about a beam with an aluminum boom to stiffen it up?? I have 2 - 36 foot long 2M beams that have a lot of support spots and seem weak. Maybe something like this would help stiffen them up.
Thank you all,
Mike Froehlich KB9JXZ

That was my first thought is water at the connections between the tower sections more than anywhere else, but then again I have 1 1/4 andrews that has all sorts of air in the center conductor with no moisture/water at the shack end. Maybe the old universal tower sections with the bolts on the outside would help keep more moisture out. Just a thought. I'm thinking if this was so great the suppliers of tower sections would have done so.
Thanks for all replys, even the negative.

I received this E-mail from a friend of mine in the tower/communications industry. Has anybody else tried this??? I would not be one to over load the tower, but maybe this would give a person more safety factor for wind/ice loading. Any thoughts of why this might be bad to try?
Subject: [Towerworkers] Test Results ROHN 25g
The results are in. Pictures pending. Last week a friend and I finally got around to testing the foam filled hollow tower leg thing that I've been harping about for so long. The results are sort of amazing.
First test: We attached an ordinary ROHN 25g tower section,,,10 ft long to an anchor point at both ends. Then we attached a Dillon to the center of the section and attached that to a chain hoist that was mounted to a steel eye beam. Without any reinforcement the section withstood 680# before starting to show signs of weakening and the meter went to 720# before the section actually bent.
Second test: In this test we purchased five aerosol cans of regular old insulating foam along with 30 ft of tubing that we used to extend the length of tubing that comes with the cans of foam. We plugged the lower end of the tower leg with Styrofoam to keep the insulating foam from spilling out that end. We then filled each leg with the insulating foam and waited about 2 hours for it to completely cure or harden. Then just for the picture's sake we trimmed the excess from the top of the leg. We then repeated the same attachment method that we'd used on the hollow leg. We started to tug. The Dillon went to 1,100 # no sign of bending. 1,200 #,,,,still no bending. The tower section started showing signs of weakening at 1,460 # and didn't actually bend until it went to 1,580#.
conclusions: We did this with four tower sections which allowed us to repeat the test twice. Both times the pressure was withing a 10# window. Pretty consistent. So, filling a hollow leg with regular old insulating foam purchased at Home Depot increased the strength of the section by 2 times its original strength while only adding 8# of weight to the section. That's marketable.
If this will work this well using a low density foam imagine what we'll get out of it once we start testing different types and density foams. And,,,,if it adds that much over all strength to a ROHN 25g then the same must be true of larger sections such as R55g, and even R80g.
The plan. Patent pending. You should be able to drill a small hole at the top of an existing tower section and insert the tubing. Then fill the tower section leg up until it over flows out the hole. The stuff expands which fills in any open areas. Using this method should prove to decrease the amount of water build up and reinforce the leg. In other words it not only adds strength to the tower leg,,,,it adds life to the tower.
The folks at Radian were amazed.

I use an Anritsu Sitemaster, works well from 25Mhz - 3Ghz and you can download sweeps to the pc. Has a spectrum analyzer to boot. And I know they do have better models than the one I use.

First, I would like to thank all the elmers that post answers to the questions on all of the forums (here and elsewhere). I have learned so much from just reading. Thank You! Now to the point: I have a ups that I am having a real hard time finding information on. Other than a spec. sheet no luck. Tried the web site on spec. sheet and I have tried all the usual searches and methods that usually end up in success, but this time no luck. My best guess is this unit is ten years old or more, it is a pull-out from a dispatch center remodel and they don't have any info on it. DELTEC Powerworks RS series Model : RST52 Part # : RST52005-00100000 also says they are a FISKERS company on one of the stickers on the back.(no luck on that search either) This unit uses 24 - 12 volt batteries in a series, center-tapped,6.5 ah each. Also has plug for larger external battery pack. I would like to know if anybody has a schematic, service manual, or software. Who could I contact for this kind of information? The unit works under test conditions but the batteries are shot, I will most likeky use this unit with fresh batteries but shure would like more info. Hope this is an ok to place this post, I usually just read, and elmers section just sounds like I'm getting the smartest group :-) Thank you all, Mike Froehlich KB9JXZ

My neighboor who is a ham got a Kenwood TS-140 while on a move, the people had it on top of the trash bin, no mic. or power cord but the radio works perfect. I have received a yeasu FT-101E for free from some people who had a relative pass away years ago and found another "one of those goofy radios" and wanted it to go to a good home. I actually like it better than my Yaesu 757. I have also have received many different radios and receivers when I was young from many elmers that I would pester as I rode around on my bike as a kid (kind of like stalking, the antenna farm would give them away, either way I owe my career in radio to those old guys.) 73's Michael J Froehlich I thought it was a good idea to talk my neighboor into getting his ham ticket until we both tried to operate on the same band but not the same frequency.

I also own the VX-7r and the AM reception is very poor if you only use the supplied stock antenna. But if you unscrew the tip where the 6 meter extension goes on the stock antenna and use an alligator cilp jumper to just about any kind of metal it hears quite well ( You wouldn't put a dual band rubber duck on a HF radio and expect to hear to much on 80 meters. )
It really just depends what antenna you plug into it.

I am happy to be third to recomend the P touch, altough I prefer the black background with the gold letters on a black background, it looks very good and I have used them at every single dispatch center I have built to label everything from frequencies of a particular transmitter or logins for dispatchers on their computer monitors. It blends in very good and they don't peel off on their own.
