eHam Forums / Elmers / Quick TS-480SAT question.

I am shopping for a new rig. I have come across postings stating that the control panel will NOT mount to the body of the radio. Is this true with current production models? Or is this just with older versions? Thanks!

Thank you! I found the info on page 17, I had it right to begin with. 73 I can't answer the question directly, but the handbook gives instructions on re-assembly to get it right. Do you have the handbook? It's section v on page 17 if you do: if not, I can type it up for you.

eHam Forums / Elmers / MFJ-986 A little help please?
|

I picked up an MFJ-986 off of eBay. It had some issues that the seller did not bother to mention.
The "Self-Resonance Killerâ„¢" was cooked. Luckily, a phone call to MFJ's tech department yielded a kind and fast response. The free replacement parts came in the mail this morning.
I am hoping that someone has one of these, and would be willing to snap a photo or two of the rod in the locked position, and how the two fiberglass "fingers" mount onto the rod with the shorting bar in contact with the inductor.
I have followed the techs advice, but it still does not seem "right".
Thank you very much, I know it is a lot to ask!

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Your rotator recommendations please

Hi everyone!
I am in need of a light duty antenna rotator for a small beam having a wind load of 4 square feet. It will be mounted on/in the top section of Rohn 20 tower.
I don't need anything fancy, just dependable. I would like it to last as long as resonably possible without failure or breaking the bank.
I have one of those TV antenna rotators, but ...it's junk.
So far I have my eye on the Yaesu G-450A, but I am not brand loyal.
I am also going to attend a local hamfest this weekend, I am not against a used one, but I am not familar with the models of the past.
Your input is apprecaited!
Thanks -Ken

eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / Simple Question about a Daiwa CN-720B

I am shopping for a new HF legal limit SWR/Wattmeter.
I came across Daiwa CN-720B, which would fit the bill. However, I would like to know if it is PEAK reading.
I need something that will work properly on SSB. Thank you for your input, and recommendations of other meters. -Ken

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Antenna advice - What would you put up?

I think I am going to try one of the Buxcom OFCD Windom's. Initially I think I am going to try it on top of a 30 foot mast, then later 60 feet up on the tower. Being that I am going to use it low then raise it up higher, which balun should I go with? 4:1 or 6:1? The ends will both remain supported at 20 feet.
Thanks!

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Antenna advice - What would you put up?

Hello there. I have a 60 foot free-standing tower. I have about 120 feet to work with in one direction and about 90 in the other.
I am trying to figure out which antenna to put up that will give me the best results.
I am attempting to cover 80-10 with the on-board tuner (FT-950) at a 100 watts. I am willing to get a better outboard tuner if I MUST.
Later on as finances permit I would like to go legal limit with QRO, but I am putting my money into my antenna system first.
So far I have found that a Windom antenna with a 4:1 balun at the feedpoint at the top of the tower seems to be a good choice.
I am willing to spend up to $200 for this antenna.
Is the Windom a good or bad idea?
Or do you have a better recommendation?
I have spools of insulated 12 ga stranded house wire that I could use and just get a balun, however reading into this implies that it would be a bad idea because it is insulated.
Thank you and 73
