I haven't been on the air in a couple of years. I checked out 20 meters and heard several stations calling cq p. Can someone tell me what this is? Portable stations? Thanks

eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / Feeding a Half Square

I'm building a half square antenna for 20 meters fed at an upper corner with RG58.
Question: In feeding the antenna with coax:
One website said: Coax center conductor goes to a verical element and braid goes to horizonal phasing element.
Another website said: Coax center conductor goes to horizontal phasing element and braid goes to a vertical element.
Can someone tell me which is correct? I believe it is the former but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

Can someone send me the circuit diagram for a RS232 TTL converter. I made one a few years ago and I recall it included 2 transistors, a few diodes and resistors. My email address is kimmed51@yahoo.com. Thanks for any assistance. Kim AB7JK

I'm interested in purchasing a DX70 to use on PSK31 but I can't figure out where the mic connector is located on the radio. Does the control head need to be removed to access the mic connector? If so can the control head be put back on after the wires are connected? Thanks AB7JK

Does anyone know if Par Electronics is still in business? I contacted them to get pricing but never got a reply. Where else can their antennas be purchased besides Universal (too slow)? AB7JK

Caity,
I have a very strong personality. I have strong understanding, beliefs and opinions and I have no problem expressing them on the internet and(somewhat toned down)in everday life.
The internet provides an environment which allows us to go 'over the top'. It provides distance and annonimity. It requires alot of emotional strength to read many of these posts. I've gone over the top with many things I've said to you and for those I apologize. I realize now many were insulting.
Because of this you continue to responded to nearly every post I've placed on this site and to nearly every response I've made to other posts. However the first post you responded to wasn't even directed at you but when you became upset with me you fell.
You are locked in to me because you resent me and your resentment is growing. Resentment creates a bond, attachment, or conditioning, much like post traumatic stress disorder. As resentment(judgement)grows the bond becomes stronger.
Our bad habits and conditioning are God's way of bringing us back to the 'scene of the crime' so we can resolve them properly once and for all. Resolving them means giving up resentment (all who sin are slaves, those who forgive will be forgiven).
This will release you. It will allow you to laugh about me with your friends, forget about me, and move on.
Be well, Kim AB7JK

NS6Y,
You are not a man. How do I know? You seek the approval of women and too easily defend the honor of one you don't know (K7VO and I go back some).
You are female centered so you see the world through female eyes like your mother who you hated. By hating your mother as a child her spirit took up residence in you displacing your male identity.
In addition to seeking approval of women you have problems with food/weight, substance abuse, and emotional problems. Take a look at yourself.

Nothing worse than an obsessed female. The sane ones are a hand full on their own.
I see your point on Icoms. I've never heard an Icom with good audio (IC-718 too narrow, IC725 too noisy) so I've chosen to avoid them in the HF dept. I have an Omni B that sounds great but is due for a breakdown sooner or later - the 2nd law of thermodynamics hi. The FT840 has great audio but I've already owned two of them and I rarely go back to rigs I've had before.
The local ham radio club has an FT897D. I'll have to go twirl the knobs I guess.

N5EAT,
Thanks for the information. My interest now is 50/144/440 SSB and FM. The FT897/FT857 seem to be the only choices without buying used or going up to satellite radios. The only mode I run on HF is PSK31/MFSK16 about 20% of the time.
As far as I understand the IPO in the Yaesus cuts out a preamp which is unneccessary in most receiver front ends anyway (sounds like an overdesign by Yaesu). Noise problem solved.
I'll be using rig control software with the Yaesu so I'll likely get the FT857D all other things being equal.
I've owned TenTecs before - great receive for long chats on SSB - just not my interest now.
