I used to be able to wire up most anything, solder the very small stuff, etc. But now after retina detachments, a retina central vein problem, issues with optic nerves, and several eye surguries - I no longer can do many of these types of things for myself. I therefore am a customer of things that some may think a ham should be able to do for themselves. And even if somewhat expensive I appreciate when a needed simple gizmo is available for purchase.

A 480 would be a much better choice for this and it is fine performer too.
Thanks, I have a 480, and agree it's a fine performer. This setup is more a transportable base station that will move from primary shack to motor home. But let's not get off the question at hand regarding the mobile bracket. Well reason I said it was mass and weight of a mounted 590. As one last side note, have you considered a MB 480 mobile bracket for 480 that lets you carry it as one piece? It even comes with a new short cable to attach head to body. Yes, thanks.
