1  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Coax in the wall on: June 15, 2012, 11:07:41 PM
When I built my shop I framed in the wall a verticle cable chase about 6-8" wide from attic down to the floor.  Pulling out or dropping in a cable is pretty easy.
2  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: PLUG-IN Appliance Hams on: June 15, 2012, 10:55:43 PM
I used to be able to wire up most anything, solder the very small stuff, etc.  But now after retina detachments, a retina central vein problem, issues with optic nerves, and several eye surguries - I no longer can do many of these types of things for myself.  I therefore am a customer of things that some may think a ham should be able to do for themselves.  And even if somewhat expensive I appreciate when a needed simple gizmo is available for purchase.

it's not a problem, there is a loss but so small as to not matter.  Go for it.

6  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: how do I install a 24 ft mast without a hole in the ground? on: May 24, 2012, 09:18:21 PM
I have a 18' pipe holding up a GAP Titan.  Anchored to the house with one of those inexpensive TV mast house brackets.  The bottom is held in place by slipping it over a piece of rebar driven into the ground.  Is very solid and has been up for a few years.
7  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Tower House Bracket (good/bad idea) on: May 22, 2012, 08:08:36 PM
Hire a day laborer to dig the hole...
8  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Dipole for field day on: May 20, 2012, 09:43:42 PM
Sounds like you are planning to set up your own station at a club or other organized field day group venue.  Be sure and discuss and coordinate your activities with that group.
9  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Ideas for loosening tight bolts from concrete base section of tower?? on: May 20, 2012, 09:40:54 PM
apply PB blaster in the morning, again in the afernoon, and some more in the evening - next day use the proper wrench and remove the nuts.  If still won't come loose - repeat the application.  After yet another day if still won't loosen, heat with a torch.
10  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: VHF mounted on a Jeep - no holes? on: May 09, 2012, 07:03:16 PM
I would just make a hole and be done with it.  When you sell it put one of the plastic plugs in the hole.

If you to get lots of ideas, go onto one of the several jeep forums and search - lots of jeepers have 2M on board for the ability to call for help in case of a need.  Such as http://jeepsunlimited.com/forums/

11  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: TROUBLE WITH THUNDERBIRD on: April 30, 2012, 08:35:07 PM
Other applications print ok, correct - the problem is only with Thunderbird?
When printing from Thunderbird the same printer is selected as with other applications, correct?

14  eHam Forums / Station Building / RE: Kenwood MB-430 Mobile Bracket for TS-590S on: April 23, 2012, 05:35:26 PM
A 480 would be a much better choice for this and it is  fine performer too.

Thanks, I have a 480, and agree it's a fine performer.
This setup is more a transportable base station that will move from primary shack to motor home.

But let's not get off the question at hand regarding the mobile bracket.

Well reason I said it was mass and weight of a mounted 590. As one last side note, have you considered a MB 480 mobile bracket for 480 that lets you carry it as one piece? It even comes with a new short cable to attach head to body.

Yes, thanks.
