eHam Forums / DXing / Newbie Question - weird call sign
on: April 11, 2003, 03:04:09 PM

Hello and welcome to HF. I'm sure you'll enjoy talking (and listening) on HF as much as I do. I took a wild guess, and thouht the person was actually signing: W4/HR1BL. It always throws me when the DX is portable in the US, since 99% of the time, its the other way around. Check out www.qrz.com and look up HR1BL. My wild guess was actually right. 73's es gud DX Jeff - WO5D

eHam Forums / DXing / oh no, new postage rates!

I thought crossed my mine with the new increase of the postage rates from 34 cents to 37 cents. I have sent some SASE's a while back (TI9M for example back in Feb.), long before I knew the postage rates were even going up. Now they have an SASE with incorrect postage. Do you think I need to resend a new SASE to all the people that I have "outstanding" SASE's to? Should I just send a 3 cent stamp?! Ack!

eHam Forums / Misc / How to QSL a SWL
on: June 17, 2002, 09:44:34 PM
I recently received a QSL through the bureau from a SWL in Germany. The card correctly has the information of me working another station in Denmark. The SWL station would like me to QSL back. My question is how do I fill out my QSL card? I would assume I would put the SWL's callsign in the callsign box, but where to go from there? The rpt/freq pertains to the Denmark station? Do I put the denmark's station's call somewhere?
Hope not to silly of a question, but haven't received a SWL QSL before.

eHam Forums / DXing / St. Kitts/Nevis QSL route?
on: April 20, 2002, 02:59:00 PM
One of the best things I found for qsl routes is to check the history of the packet spots of that station. I used the pathefinder site: http://www.qsl.net/pathfinder/WebClient/and typed V44CO for the DXS 2002, and one of them said the route was via WB2TSL. If that was around the same time you worked him probably worth an SASE to find out if that is the right route. (2001 spots also has the same route) Hope this helps Jeff, WO5D

eHam Forums / DXing / DX nets

I am wondering if anyone knows if there is a list of DX nets along with the starting time and fequencies published somewhere. If not, could you share some DX nets that you might know of? I found a couple by chance, but can't seem to find them consistently.
Thanks for the help.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Green stamps and inflation

I have been away from HF Radio and DXing now for about 10 years while I was away at school, and now have a kinda stupid question. In 1990, it was sufficient to add 1 green stamp ($1) to cover the return postage. Now I was wondering if that is still sufficient, or if there is any guidance out there for me. Now that I am back, there are a lot of countries active that were not active 10 years ago, and even more surprising is how many countries DID NOT EXIST then. I used to be able to recite the DXCC prefix list but now it seems like I'm contantly having to look things up. Anyhow, any insight you can give me on the necessary greenstamps would be much appreciated.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Help with a kenwood 830 on the WARC band
on: April 25, 2001, 08:38:29 PM
I need a little help with a kenwood 830. I purchased this radio used, and without a manual. I have tried using it on all the bands which it has, and it transmits fine on all of them, except 18 Mhz and 24 Mhz, where I get absolutely 0 power out. Does anyone know if this radio needs to be modified or have something special done to work in those bands, or know where I should go from here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
