6  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Top Band Loop on: February 02, 2013, 12:02:55 PM
Hi guys thanks for replying, yes it is a delta loop with the horizontal part at top, havnt decided yet what length any part will be,yes a rectangle would be excellent as it ia a larger opening than a delta loop, however it is agricultual land and i need to keep everything out of animal and tractor reach,I guess vertical pol is best as it is so low for a top band antenna,im nat an antenna expert so I need your ideas,I built my own version of the Radio Works Super Loop and it works great, thanks again Richard EI5GUB

Hi Im thinking of putting up a loop antenna for 160mtrs,I have 2 trees that are near 70 ft high and will have the longest part between the trees with the apex at the bottom,I was thinking of putting the feed point in one of the top corners and using an electric length quarter wave 75 ohm to match it,can anyone please jig this on a computer and tell me what it looks like plot wise, thanks EI5GUB
8  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: MFJ 986 Tuner on: January 21, 2013, 11:10:08 AM
hi again, the antenna is a home brewed version of Radio works super loop,it always worked well on 80 and 40 with no arcing atall but when I go to 20 mtrs it tunes fine but when the linear is turned on all hell breaks loose and we start cooking, the feeder is new, since this big arc took place last week the carolina windom is now also arcing on 20mtrs,I sent an email to MFJ to see if they will send me replacement fibre parts that are burnt,i read on a few sites that this problem can be common and for rollers and wheels to get dirty which can give eratic swr which mine has done, thanks again
9  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: MFJ 986 Tuner on: January 20, 2013, 02:53:52 PM
Hi firstly it started on 20 meters using a super loop antenna, now its happening using a windom also,it is arcing like crazy like a small welder,I cant understand how fibre material is able to arc,I sent an email to MFJ to see if they can send me the 2 pieces of fibre and I will rebuild roller coaster and clean the coil and wheel inside as this seems to be a problem, this tuner is 5 years old and has always worked perfect
10  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / MFJ 986 Tuner on: January 20, 2013, 08:53:56 AM
Hi im having problems with an MFJ 986 Tuner, the roller coaster has 4 spacers along the length of it,these are made from material like circuit board stuff so are supposed to be no conductive, however mine is arcing like crazy between 1 of these boards and the base of the chassis and is buring the material,I put 2 layers of special insulating material underneath it but it arced through both of them, this is all with 500 watts in a Tuner thats able to take a few Kw and also the SWR is fine when it happens, any ideas any one please, cheers Richard

14  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / 20 mertre loop on: April 26, 2012, 02:16:12 PM
hi guys I put up my 20 metre loop last weekend at 70 feet and it is working very well and is very quiet compared to dipoles etc,I was thinking what if I put another 1 next to it and fed them in phase, can anyone please model something like this, cheers Richard
15  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: MFJ 986 on: April 26, 2012, 02:12:29 PM
hi guys I opened tuner up last night and the switch looked alright,I bent in all the small tabs that the switch hits as it passes them and changed coax 1 so259 as it was faulty, when I put it back together it was ok again, one thing I noticed a while ago is that when I was using a big multi band loop that was designed fo 80 and 40 but would work on 20 it would light up trhe light inside the tuner when I spoke into the mic, maybe this burnt something, cheers and thanks for all the help, all the best Richard
